I think a Clottey victory would be a decent victory for Paul, because if he beat him very convincingly (which he would) it would show how much better of a fighter that Paul is than Cotto. But anyone who thinks that fight will be nothing short of a wipeout victory for Paul Williams knows nothing about boxing.

And I understand why HBO isn't too keen on the idea of Paul fighting Sergei D. The Ukranian is a good fighter, but he is totally unknown to the American boxing fan. A fight with Martinez would be a better fight for Paul where money is concerned, because Martinez has connections with Dibella and HBO has aired a couple of his fights. I don't understand why Dibella and Goosen isn't trying to put that fight together. But if Paul fought Sergei D. and Martinez fought an unknown bum, we would know who the ducker is in that situation. I wanted the WBC belt strapped around a fighter who wants to fight everybody. We don't need it around the waist of another Vernon Forrest.

If you have over 30 fights and an 0 that is enough to make you popular in the states. Helps if you speak good english and have a personality. Clottey is a welterweight and it's about time Williams decides where he is gonna STAY, weight-wise. A win over Clottey would never be a KO, would make both Williams and Clottey non desirable fights, a win over a 154 pounder, undefeated champion would on the other hand open up the higher weight divisions more, specially after Winky. Smart thing to do is what he's doing now, go for Sergei and then Abraham, Froch, Pavlik, all multi million dollar fights, will all be open for him. I see him beating all of them cept for Pavlik. Add to that the need to see how he does vs a legit 154 pounder.
