Which proves my point - its pure bloody delusion. Heck Lewis only retired half a decade ago and was still making millions per fight - he retired 400+ million richer the rumour is! This whole NFL/NBA bull**** is a BS cop out & deep down you know it.
You make BIG MONEY in boxing you must be the best.

Not to sound controversial or piss people off but I've read several places that African Americans have gotten soft, Boxing is a hard sport usually for people who don't have many other opportunities in life. Also Boxing isn't very popular with African Americans any more, just look how the best African American fighters can't draw. Like I said I'm not trying to be controversial or piss people off.

I read this on Cyberboxingzone from a guy I assume is a prison guard.

In prison where macho is king, blacks who dominate in population will not watch boxing. When a fight comes on, no matter who is fighting on the tv, you have to practically start a fight or intimidate to get the tv on the boxing matches. Like the white population has been, the blacks are now ifeminine and less into manly things. They would rather watch a dance show, or a sitcom, or soap opera and hold their hands between their legs like goofs than watch boxing. In the past in prison, boxing RULED the tv. Nothing came before the fights. NO MORE. The only people that watch boxing are older blacks, a few whites and the majority of watchers latino. The whole population in this country of young people have changed. Boxing doesnt attract them. Its American Idol and crap like that.
I believe the problem is ethnic and racial in a big part. The other is a general softening of our society.
Pack man has a huge following amonst Filipinos and no doubt will influence others amonst his ethnic cllass to become fighters. Same with Vic Darchinyan amonst Armenian youth. etc etc. In America the majority white population wasnt that hungry anymore, the white fighters of quality diminished and the fan base left. Now the Black minority has more money, less hunger, less quality fighters, fans have left their interest behind. East European dominance of the heavy classes has left a impact here in the states and it has resulted in less interest. No doubt about it-People want to see their own compete and be victorious and it always generated great fan interest in boxing.
Second part is boxing is a sport for the tuff and hungry and it takes a certain kind of man and a certain condition for it to prosper. The US is not that place any more. That place is overseas. LIke is or lump it that is truth. The foreign fighters will get better. Be patient. It will take time. The bodies and the hunger is there and the trainers will catch up.
Personally I like boxing no matter what the nationality of the boxer, but fans like me and us are a minority.

You miss the point. That being, with athletes pursuing other sports the talent pool in boxing has been depleted. The more talent you have to develope, the stronger the competition. The stronger the comp, the tougher a fighter will become.

unfortunately for the euro's egos, it's true - boxing isn't a popular choice for American kids these days. All the white kids want to be Peyton Manning and Tom Brady, all the black kids want to be Kobe and Lebron. Probably a few hispanic kids still box, but the sport itself isn't a popular choice anymore. Who wants to end up like Ali with parkinson's when you could play baseball, basketball, and football. Heck, even if you don't make it to the big leagues, you can still score a partial/full scholarship to a 2/4 year college. Take the degree and go into a stable field of employment. Or go into coaching by networking during college. Or play professionally overseas - American basketball and baseball players make a grip of cash in foreign leagues.

So yeah, sorry to burst your ego, but the NFL/NBA/MLB and the other professional sports in the US are draining the talented athletes from boxing.
