Guys like the Carolina Panthers Julius Peppers a guy who is 6-7 and 290 pounds...fast and explosive would be heavyweight champ of the world had he started out boxing as a kid.

I read this on Cyberboxingzone from a guy I assume is a prison guard.
Youre right, we have gone soft. so have italians, ***s, the irish, and all the other groups that used to dominate the sport. Boxing is a sport of desperation, if you want to take punches to get to the top, you need to be determined, personally, there are just better, less violent options now. less to do with going soft and more to do with a cultural shift toward the sport.

It's not an opinion...It's a FACT....you Americans keep getting softer and us Eastern Europeans keep getting stronger.

The problem is getting the youth interested in boxing, the majority of sport stars don't decide to do a sport because of money. They are stars of their sport because they got interested in it at a young age and practiced it because they like it.

I'm American and let me say,THIS IS A COP OUT. Just cuz u run a 4.3 or bench 225 25 times doesn't equate to being a great fighter. Boxing is more than athleticsm it's hunger, desire, dedication and willingness to win. Just cuz u fast doesn't mean u'll have a chin or even wanna punch or get punched.

The biggest problem is the networks, promoters and Boxing itself for the lack of Heavyweight contenders from the U.S. There are fewer gyms and Boxing is almost exclusively on premium cable and PPV. You think poor kids like Tyson,Hoylfield,Foreman,Ali were back in the day have HBO OR SHOWTIME TODAY? Of course not. Boxing has always attracted kids from the hood who basically were loaners and ego-maniacs that wouldn't fit in a team concept and that actually liked to fight. There is a better chance that the best American Heavyweight is in jail or hangin on a corner rather than in the NFL or NBA.
