But I don't think it's strictly a welterweight bout, seeing as the boxers don't have the option to weight 147lbs, which is by right within the welterweight boundaries
yeah, but a fight at 145 lbs is still a welterweight fight.

wrong, wrong, wrong. The welterweight limit is 147 pounds. Team Pacquiao is neither a commission or a sanctioning body, yet they are re-writing the rules to limit a welterweight title fight to 145 pounds.

If Klitschko fights Arreola and limits Arreola to 225 pounds, is that ok?
If Bute fights Andrade and makes Andrade weigh 165 pounds, is that ok?

You can spin it however you want, but its still bull****. The title should NOT be on the line.

cotto is fine w/ 145 lbs so there should be no problem.

let me make this clear: WW IS ANYTHING FROM 147-141 LBS. THAT MEANS PAC/COTTO IS A WW FIGHT!!!
In the post u quoted I used Pea and Sugar ray as examples because they have both done something similar. And I like both fighters quite a bit. My point is this, let both come in at the weightclass maximum if they chose to and put the belt on the line. Or do it at a catch weight as an attraction fight without the belt.

I think that needs to be clarified because clearly that isn't common knowledge on these boards.

              Carry on.
Too bad there are still fans out there who doesn't get.

When has a fighter fighting at a certain weight ever entered a fight 5-6 pds under the limit?
Bernard hopkins weighed in at 156 several times in his career when he was a middleweight.

Pacquiao weighed in at 142 pounds when he fought Oscar at welterweight.

Steve Cunningham often weighed in under 190 pounds (as low as 182) when fighting at Cruiserweigh (which is 200 pound max).

                it doesnt happen
See above for three modern examples.

quit trying to justify pacs stance
I'm not. My thread is intended to explain how cotto's belts are on the line because I have seen a number of people say this isn't a welterweight fight, but as I shown 145 is within the welterweight limits.

Then why was Pernell Whitakers belt on the line against JCC at a catchweight of 145? Why was Bernard Hopkins belts on the line against Oscar at a catchweight of 158?

Agreed. If the belt is that important just let it be a regular ww fight.
