I applaud Victor Ortiz for quitting.

It is about you when you knock a guy for doing the same things that you probably would do. Ortiz quit and yea he might never fight again or might take this fight and learn from it and make sure it(quitting) never happens again. You know we got alot of smart people on this forum, but we also got a bunch of hardcore IDIOTS.

Some would - and possibly get their careers fucked up as a result.

I just caught the final round on youtube (cheat, I know) while looking for a download. It is what it is, Victor quit, but it was a smart quit. He seems that thoughtful kind of guy who isn't interested in mindlessly following the machismo mentality he grew up around, more power to him. And I'm not knocking the mentality of fighter who would have fought on, either. Everybody's got to make their own choices.

          Rob,

You said that guys who quit come back and FIGHT BETTER.

Cotto did not look "better" than he has in the past. To me, he looked worse. He was unable to pull away from a limited Clottey. And a VERY legitimate argument can be made that Miguel lost that fight.

The best that Cotto has looked was in the Mosley fight and the first few rounds of the Marg fight. You have not validated your statement. At all.

And those guys were very lucky that they never got brain damage, etc. Dude, maybe ortiz does not have the stomach for boxing, we won't know till he finds out himself. I respect every boxer out there for what they do in the ring, the ones i don't respect are the ones that cheat or decide they want to be called THE BEST without fighting THE BEST.

I havent said anything about him quitting or his heart, i havent even seen the fight to be honest, i just think he was over rated.

Now its his call if he wants outta there or not and im not asking anybody to be Arturo Gatti or anything but i think if ur in the fight u fight till ur body wont let u. This is a macho sport where real men lay it down after all

I think alot of the hate comes because he is Mexican and the Mexican posters gave Cotto all kinds of **** for taking a knee

When you name yourself "Vicious", wear the Mexican colors, and brag about how you told your dad "**** you, I'm a man", then you lose the right to become analytical about quitting.

I can tolerate if Mayweather or Lennox Lewis were to quit. Their personas are not wrapped about their machismo. Mexican "warriors" are not allowed to quit.

Wait 1 minute....cotto fighting a top 5 contender who has NEVER been knocked out and cotto gets cut bad, one of the worse cuts you'll see a boxer have and goes the distance and he gets no props for that? What the hell is going on with some of you. He is in line for one of the biggest fights ever and if he wins will be considered one of the best. And this coming from a guy who quit in that margarito fight.....lol

                      So, Lemme get this straight:

It is more honorable (IN YOUR OPINION) to quit against a journeyman, than to say you're the best?
