I applaud Victor Ortiz for quitting.

Well, I would never call the dude a *****, because he clearly is not. He did the smart and logical thing. Boxing is not always smart or logical. The fighters who are remembered as legends in this sport are the ones who put getting their hand raised after the fight over their health. I'm not saying that's the way it should be, but that's the way it is, and the way it's always been. That's why boxing isn't like other sports. Fighters are held to a higher standard than other athletes.

All credit in the world goes to Maidana for one of the bravest performances I've seen in recent years.

Somebody raised a very good point, people quit on fight night round 4 when things aren't looking good for them yet complain when boxers quit.

This has always bugged me with the sport, the ''dance monkey dance'' attitude of some people. Boxers have their health to consider, if they want to retire or quit when they want that is their business people have no right to say they should continue because they are not the ones getting punched in the face.

If he knew he had no chance and was taking punishment, I don't blame him for quitting.

I bet he'd feel humiliated if he got KTFO, instead his health his fine and he can fight another day.

Also, where is the credit for Maidana? He fought a hell of a battle, taking thunderous shots himself, but all we see is the Ortiz bashing.

Both fighters fought a tough war, it's a shame it ended like it did, but at least both men fight another day.

Well done to Maidana for a great fight, and showing us exactly what he's made of.

I would rather come back and fight properly and healthily another day and win."

I think he gave us a good fight and will surely be back, hopefully better than ever and with the mind set to now make sure he doesn't do what wankers like the majority of this board want him to do.

Get over yourselves you bunch of hypocritical ******. Every single one of you would ****e your pants in a second if faced with the prospect of some guy across the ring who has knocked out every single one of his opponents, and he wants to literally pulverize your face into moosh.

Oh, wait, that's right, you all just sit on your arses and play on your computer typing about a fighter who gives you entertainment as being a ***** for providing you with one of the best fights of the year so far! You ****ing bunch of wanking **** ******s. Damn, I'm sick of hearing pathetic little kids whine about a fighter quitting. How many of you have been smashed in the face over and over by a guy with serious power? None of you! Christ, Id like to take a bat to some of you losers calling him a quitter or a *****. Not a single one of you who call him that would even know what it's like to step into that ring and fight someone desperate to kick your head in. You all disgust me.

Could not have said it better. When my favorite boxer(cotto) took 2 knees against margarito I was dissapointed but relieved that he did not get KNOCKED OUT or end up so bad that this upcoming fight with pacman would only be a dream. Cotto went from that fight to fighting the biggest fight of his career and margarito goes to embarrassing boxing and himself. You are only a quiiter if you quit and don't go forward. Miguel showed in that clottey fight that he will not quit again. Somehow i think Ortiz will be back in the ring and SOME OF US will forget it ever happened. There are many posters here who are just plain idiots and don't have the b***s to get near a ring, so those are the ones that should not say 1 word. Sometimes you have to quit 1 day to live another and that's what ortiz/cotto chose to do...more power to them. Enough of this BS machismo.

so how can a fighter ever become a champion if he quits when his opponent decides not to lay down for him?

                      Benny,

Get over yourself. Go expose your inner demons elsewhere.

He quit. He SAID that he quit.
