Cotto fought Michael Jennings after losing to Margarito for f**ks sake..

Hatton's over confidence
Originally posted by bbwoof2000 View PostHey....Forbes gotta eat. Opponents fight for paydays. I hate those fights and don't usually watch them but I realize that most fighters who are deemed opponents didn't make much money and didn't wisely manage what they did make and fighting is all they know. But....if Ricky Hatton fights Forbes I think it will be because he thinks he can easily beat him and rebuild some confidence before he challenges fighters of Mayweather's and Pacman's caliber again.
after seeing him dominate Malignaggi like he did, (who's feather fisted much like Forbes)
the sheer amount of trash talk Hatton spewed before the Pacquiao fight was un necessary and really showed Ricky's lack of confidence in himself.
especially the whole "right hook roll under, same **** every time" .. and look how the 1st knockdown of the Pac fight occurred, lol.
so regarding Hatton/Forbes .. IMO a Hatton easy W might help his confidence but in the long run will not help Ricky as it won't keep his ego in check any, and an easy W will give Hatton a false sense of security.
**granted trash talk in boxing is not at all unheard, I just personally find Hatton's talk (particularly vs Pacquiao and even vs Mayweather) aimed more to rip his opponents ability in attempt to make up for his lack of ability. take the following 3 quotes.
1- paraphrased, but Hatton commented about DLH being a "dead opponent" for Pacquiao, and that even he could have taken Oscar out that night. Funny considering pre fight Hatton picked Oscar to win, and on top of it himself declined a fight vs DLH. so when it's all set and done and Pacquiao dominates Oscar, then Hatton comes out and says he'd do the same. Pretty Monday Morning Quarterback, and a kind of Pathetic thing to say.
2- the whole "same **** every time" regarding a Pacquiao right hook. The fact that in his fight vs Pacquiao Hatton was dropped with this very move is just icing on the cake.
and 3 - one of my personal favorites quotes. regarding the PBF-Hatton fight, "December 8th will be the end of him" .. end of what? his undefeated boxing record, or his life? is Hatton planning to end Floyd Jr's life? Gimme a break, this is Boxing Ricky, not Mortal Kombat. Way to sound like a complete over dramatic tool.
in conclusion
**having confidence is one thing, and almost expected of the best to get where they have in their respective careers, however over confidence can do the exact opposite, in building you up into a level of thinking that is not at all productive.

Hatton looked real drained at 140 in the weigh in, but that's no excuse that he lost to Pacquiao because they both weighed in 150+ on fight night. Maybe now, Hatton will be use to 147 after two tough bouts with Collazo and Mayweather. I'd give Hatton a chance against the shorter WW's like Berto and Cotto who are like 5'7" and can't fight well when being pressured. Imo.
