u alright by me...and truth be told no other race even come close to dominating boxing like black fighters. even now, from 130 on up there is atleast 1 black fighter in the top 5 of their weight class(except HW). and if paul williams keep doing what he do and lil bam bam keep his love for the sport. we gon keep on dominating!

I'm blaming black fans as a whole actually.. not just internet.
But even if that, who's fault is it that black people don't really pay attention to the sport though?
btw, I think that claim is false because usually people I can talk about boxing to are either black or mexican.
The sport moves on and continues weather blacks pay attention to the sport or not, it really makes little difference to me. What does it matter if blacks are filling stadiums or not? Fighters still fight, i dont give a *** personally.Comment

We have had our icons. Infact, two of our icons are the center of the hottest boxing game in the world right now. We have had our time in boxing, we have COUNTLESS icons across the historical mainframe.
I love it when people OUTSIDE of our community want to tell us what we need. We have had more black icons in boxing than any other ethnic group in the entire sport. The thing is, after jack johnson, after joe louis, after ali etc, we had one after the other. Who will be after pac? That should be the question filipinos should be asking instead of worrying about a group has one of the most established positions in the sport.Comment

I will say it one more time.
Nobody in this generation, sports, government or anything else, is going to surpass Barack as an icon for black america. Its not going to happen. His fame and meaning is too great right now for something like that to happen.
Once you understand this, then youll see why this article is trash no matter what.Comment

Dude, you jump into arguments without knowing what is up.
It's obvious you just read the headline and it has to do with race
so you jump on it and act outraged.
The fact is the author is right.. if he had said that about Mexican boxing fans
he'd be wrong, as they come out in droves to support their fighters..
There are black boxing fans out there but do they come out to support their fighters? No. I don't know why but they don't.Comment

Oh, and I could give two ****s if black people support their fighters (which they dont) I'm just pointing out that the author has a point.Comment

black people used to seeing black fighters at the top of the sport. It has always been the case. It is nothing new to casual fans or hardcore fans. plus, there are other black athletes in other sports. I know he was talking about boxing, but boxing is a sport so it is relevant to the other sports. Ricans got only boxing and baseball, Mexicans got boxing and maybe soccer, Pinoys only got boxing.
white and black people got athletes in all those sports and we bowl! but whites tend to love their hockey, baseball, and all Americans love football. blacks we tend to favor basketball and football s our favorites.
But at the end of the day the article was poorly written and the title and topic was horrible. If you want to know how boxing can get more black fans engaged then just say that....or ask how can we get more black fans to the sport!
What I think the author was trying to convey was that what boxing and black fans 'need' is a true boxing superstar with an exciting personality, who is engaging and is black. It's been silent since Tyson left for Black America and it's no coincidence that the sport has suffered since then, for America. Its booming elsewhere because latinos and euros dominate the scene. With Oscar gone, it'll only get worse. He was the rare fighter that all races cheered for. (despite NBS naysayers).
In regards to Floyd, I also think the writer poorly gave his view on Floyd. I think he was trying to say that Floyd disappointed him with his inability to capture the American audiences. And the people that are paying for his fights are paying for the wrong reasons.
Floyd had it all, tutored by Oscar on how to become a star. Pearly white smiles, key wins, abilities that far exceed anyone in boxing (save for maybe Calderon) and good career progression. His attitude, arrogance (far from Ali's type of arrogance) and overall persona just rubbed the majority the wrong way. Too bad the author couldn't manage to express this the way I thought he was trying. Not bashing, just disappointment that he couldn't capture the spotlightComment

Morgan Freeman: Freeman has publicly criticized the celebration of Black History Month and does not participate in any related events, saying, "I don't want a black history month. Black history is American history."[12] He says the only way to end racism is to stop talking about it, and he notes that there is no "white history month".[13] Freeman once said on an interview with 60 Minutes' Mike Wallace: "I am going to stop calling you a white man and I'm going to ask you to stop calling me a black man."[12] Freeman supported the defeated proposal to change the Mississippi state flag, which contains the Confederate battle flag.[14][15]
He's kinda right. President Barrack ***** (for whom I voted) did not concentrate on differences, he concentrated on hope. I don't admire Mr. Freeman because he appears to be a pacified minority, resigned to his position in life, but because of his wisdom and forward thinking. If you are religious we are ALL made in God's image. If scientific, we evolved from the same single origin. There is no quantitative or qualitative difference that should matter anymore.
As for boxing, it just shows that there is talent pooled from all over the world from all walks of life. The surge of one group or other could be explained by prosperity or desperation or even a cultural change of interests.Comment
