I'm glad to hear that even the Germans who watched didn't consider it 'a decent fight'...hopefully that means their handlers start to think outside of the box for their next matchups.

Agreed. They are liked as entertainers, but in the ring they are not too entertaining. Because of that, the whole show (bombastic ****) was given in Gelsenkirchen.

Everybody here wants to see Valuev fall against one of the Ks. David Haye is another in the line. Arreola is almost unknown, far less than Povetkin or Dimitrenko. Both of the young Russians have a growing reputation over here.

BUT - as boring as the boxing styles of Maske, Ottke, and others were, they were regarded as champions and loved for that. The K's are almost adopted as Germans, 'cause they live half of the time here, walk&talk here, and are present in media.

You may think we entertain ourselves by "watching paint dry", but - for watching - there are US sports more boring than soccer (i.e. baseball). I've seen two matches when I was in Ohio in the 90s, and I could not get to it.
insightefull. i realy can't catch on how the klitschkos can be so popular. i mean they are the best. but you have to snicker at the hvwt circus.

Hm, dunno. Perhaps, the loudmouths and the fighters talking crap before a fight are generally not liked here (Haye, I'm looking at you). But, on the other hand, the 'tiger' Darius M. was well regarded, even if he was boasting and less gentelman than Maske or Ottke. Perhaps a boring bout is better than a lost fight?

Few people look deeper into the lower divisions. Only if there is a champ in a class, the people will take time to learn about possible opponents.

HBO didn't show Wlad, and few in the US were aware of the fight. Here, the event Mayweather/de la Hoya was not noticed by the mainstream media. Of course, there were some who watched the fight, but these were few and far between.

We Americans we want a ripped up fast devastating champion that creates excitment and isn't scared to jump in someones chest and try to kill them. Not jab on a second rate espn during the middle of the day. ****'s still get no love here.

I called about 10 motels and none of them had ESPN Classic, I ended up having to watch it at a McDonalds with no sound, all our McDonalds have big flat screen TV's here but they usually leave them on CNN Headline News, I asked them to change it to ESPN Classic, and it showed Holyfield and Tyson fights then finally they sandwiched in the Klitschko vs Chagaev fight at the wrong time which was 5pm, our local paper listed it on at 6pm.

They do all they can to make sure noone sees it here but if it was an American Heavyweight with even 1% chance of winning it would have been on HBO and re-broadcasted on HBO later and ESPN2 several times...

They did show 5 hours of 1980's and 1990's fights on ESPN Classic on the same day with Klitschko vs Chagaev in the middle, I know on a typical saturday I'd be at the movie theatre at 5 or 6pm not watching ESPN Classic they should have re-broadcasted the fight at various times...

All Larry Holmes did was Jab...Jab...Jab...Jab...etc...etc...etc...

but Americans tuned it every time to watch the Jabbing...

There were 500 less channels back then too, American Idol re-runs murder all sports in the ratings in America.... LMAO

Even SpongeBob gets higher ratings than Boxing here!! hehehe

mm, it was 2pm in California the time the fight aired, my friends and I all had plans during the noon time. Many people are busy during 2pm on a Saturday.

It was 5 PM Eastern, 2 PM Pacific on a Saturday on a channel that not maybe even half of Americans get on late notice with no advertising. 150k sounds very reasonable.

indeed, Saturday noons are a time of relaxation.

Americans forget the Larry Holmes days I guess...

But they're likely thinking of the Gerry Cooney hype who was gonna bring "Excitement" to the boring Heavyweight landscape and KO the "Boring Jabber" Larry Holmes but instead got Jabbed into a "Pizza Face" and stopped!!

Same thing will happen to the UK's "Tyson Fury", I think his handlers think Danny Williams is washed up enough to pad Fury's record with but Danny Boy will spring a KO surprise on Tyson Fury and send him packin'...hehehe

Tyson Fury is so easy to hit Butterbean would KO him in 1 round...

He even hits himself with ease....
