Dismal for Klitschko-Chagaev on ESPN Classics

Is anyone suprised by the dismal figures? It was one of the most boring fights I have ever witnessed in my entire life. I lost count at the amount of times I tuned out during the fight. What is entertaining about a giant guy constantly jabbing a smaller fat guy??Comment

It's not that man. The problem with Wladimir is only 2 things. THE TWO SOLE PUNCHES he seems to know in his arsenal. People like to believe good fighters don't get defeated by a jab and a right hand they know beforehand that's gonna be their enemy all night. I don't blame them. It's like watching bullfighting really, if you bare to watch it you are rooting for the bull, not the man on a horse sticking metal poles on to it. Wlad's opposition needs to go up allot. He needs to challenged. The problem is back in Germany nobody wants that, they want their champion and to see him win. They understand nothing else, they care for nothing else.Comment

Like i said, dont bring up the greatest, you cant compare the 2.
Yes Ali had some boring fights in his 2nd reign. But as is the case, he had way more exciting fights than klits ever had. Had people excited to see a HW fight and got your average person to watch them. Klit, not so much, seems like only overseas is where people are excited to see him in a sparring session(Can i get some europeans to address this issue?). Only time Klit is in an exciting fight is when he gets ktfo. And when he ko's fools, it takes him forever to do it, especially when it comes to stiffs, and that includes Chagaev. I dont care who he beat in the amatuers, he didnt do **** other than beat Valuev......
Get over your bias and bitchassness......Wlad is boring, nuff said.Comment

Boxing is on the verge of becomming irrelevant in America? Do you realise how polemic that statement is? Wasn't Hatton-Pacman just in Vegas? Didn't Clottey and Cotto fight their heart out in Madison Square Garden? You do know what the most prestigious boxing arena is named right? Madison Square Garden. Ask any fighter American,European,Australian,African and from every other location where they would like to fight...... so you can hear them say Madison Square Garden..Unless Mexicans and Puerto Ricans deside to leave North America, boxing will always thrive here.Boxing is on the verge of becoming irrelevant in America! They lack talent to compete with Europeans and have few sophisticated fans who can appreciate all aspects of boxing, not just slugging. The future of boxing is going to be in Europe where all the champions reside and fans actually show up and tune in for fights and appreciate the different skill sets boxers have. In a few years any talented American boxer who wants a big payday or championship will have to travel to Europe to get it since it's becoming the Mecca of boxing.
Why not compare continent with Continent instead of US vs Europe? Don't forget our Mexican and Puerto Rican neighbors, who contribute immensely to boxing in North America, even Canada has some great champions. As for these sophisticated fans-don't make me laugh, just because they can sit through a Klitschko match doesn't make them knowledgable, on the contrary they must be brain dead when a Wlad jab can hypnotize the audiance so easily. It is easy to be a nationalistic troll.Comment

There is a lot of complaining over here in Germany, that the K's don't get "real challenging fighters" in the ring. Calling every opponent of the K brothers a "bum", 'cause they all look bad against them. Even reporters called Chagaev "Fallobst" (windfall). But who the hell the division has to offer? There were 11 Mio ppl watching RTL last week, but more of expecting a decent fight than a demonstartion of vast superiority.
On the other hand, both K's are VERY popular, 'cause
1) they are gentelmen out of the ring
2) they speak German fluently (both speak 4 languages)
3) they look good (big female fandom here)
4) the technical advantage they have in the ring is regarded as "got it from hard training"
5) they are rather present in the media all the while (ads and so on, where the brothers make jokes at their own expense)
6) they are NOT loudmouthed and boasting - successful, but modest in the media.
Additionally, there is a PPV network in Germany, but it usually shows movies. The network had staggering difficulties in a season, where they had the "first pick" rights to top soccer events. PPV is not accepted here for major sport events.Last edited by Phirsole; 06-27-2009, 01:51 AM.Comment

...none of those reasons have anything to do with their actual style of fighting in the ring. You could hear CRICKETS in the stands during that fight up until they started singing a soccer song because the German fans were so freaking bored. I'm glad to hear that even the Germans who watched didn't consider it 'a decent fight'...hopefully that means their handlers start to think outside of the box for their next matchups. There is a lot of complaining over here in Germany, that the K's don't get "real challenging fighters" in the ring. Agreed. They are liked as entertainers, but in the ring they are not too entertaining. Because of that, the whole show (bombastic ****) was given in Gelsenkirchen.
Everybody here wants to see Valuev fall against one of the Ks. David Haye is another in the line. Arreola is almost unknown, far less than Povetkin or Dimitrenko. Both of the young Russians have a growing reputation over here.
BUT - as boring as the boxing styles of Maske, Ottke, and others were, they were regarded as champions and loved for that. The K's are almost adopted as Germans, 'cause they live half of the time here, walk&talk here, and are present in media.
You may think we entertain ourselves by "watching paint dry", but - for watching - there are US sports more boring than soccer (i.e. baseball). I've seen two matches when I was in Ohio in the 90s, and I could not get to it.Comment
