That wouldn't make sense at all. So yes this is a welterweight fight.
Actually, its a catchweight fight. The ww limit is 147, not 144, or 145, or 146.

By making it at a catchweight, its giving an advantage to one of the fighters. Nobody says you have to weigh in at 147, only under it. So, while it is indeed above 140, its still less than the 147 limit.

Its going to be a great fight regardless, but its a bit misleading to say its a welterweight fight when the fighters aren't allowed to come in up to 147 pounds.

      • how in a hell cotto will be in a disadvantage at 145 when he said he is perfectly ok at that weight? By not giving manny a level playing field and come out a little bit from his comfort zone he is no difference with mayweather. fighting naturally smaller fighter for an easy money. Mannys last weighed in is just 138 and need to up in weight huge just to fight this coward. Manny win or lose at 145=100% credit; Cotto win or lose no credit, nuff said.

Thats the baddest no armed broad I've ever seen.

I can only imagine getting dome without the use of hands. Just keep pushing and pushing her head down, pulling her hair hard as ****, "suck it beautiful, suck it real good, no air for you until you're done, slap me *****, try it, I dare you".

          • I don't really understand this catch weight business - I mean what if Pac wins the belt - does that mean all his challengers will also have to meat a catch weight to fight him for it?

141-147 is considered welterweight. 147 is the maximum limit for a welterweight fight. beyond that, its another weight class.

141 lb would still be a welterweight fight.

belts have been on the line for weights below the weightclass' maximum limit. this is nothing new.

              • Tell me one thing y'all.

Were all the title fights in boxing end up with the exact weight?

for me, i believe WEIGHT agreement is just PAPER.

How can you say that a fight is at 147 when they end up in a different weight during the fight?

There are no perfect match-ups in boxing people.
Even if 2 fighters have the same weight there are still other things that affects the fight (reach, height, age, fight history, dedication in training, habits, etc.)

Hey, i'm not an expert but this is a fact with all these weight issues.

For me, there really ain't no issue at all.

If this 2 wanted to have the fight with or without the belt, let them.
They know their own capacity as much as anyone here does.

Just be happy this fight has been made and enjoy the show.

not necessarily. both fighters are moving away from their comfortable weight to meet at a point to somehow even the playing field. anyway, this may or may not apply to the fight in discussion.

                    just nitpicking...

@147, pacquiao would be the one at the disadvantage. 145 is reasonable since cotto came in at 146 in his last fight.

keep in mind the biggest weight pacman entered in the ring is 148 lbs. cotto would outweigh him more if it was made in 147 instead of 145

is it such a ***** move wanting your opponent to outweigh you by 10lbs instead of 15lbs?

don't get me wrong. catchweight is ****, but pacquiao would be in a significant size disadvantage at 147. this is the best fight available for pac now.
