It looks to me like he is either letting Cotto have the fight at 145 with a lesser cut of the money, or have it at 143 while letting Cotto have a little bit bigger slice of the purse cut. I don't think he is worried about beating Cotto at a certain weight. I think he is using it to try to squeeze more money out of the fight, and I can't be mad at Pacquiao for that. He deserves the lion's share in this fight. I know Clottey, Mosley and Margarito are better opponents than D. Diaz, ODLH, and Hatton. But it's still the idea that Pacquiao has won his fights by putting a stamp on them since he fought JMM.
I agree that they might have used the weight issue to get a bigger purse. As a matter of fact i mentioned something similar last week on a different thread.

Don't know about the exact numbers but basically i was saying the same thing you said. that they could be flexible with the weight to get a bigger purse.

    Good post!!

    • Is it 70/30 in pacmans favour the money split?

Its gonna be a great fight, I like both fighters....I don't know if Cotto is the same Cotto before the Margo fight, seeing his last two fights tells me he's lost a bit of confidence. But weighing upto 20lbs more on the night will make a difference especially if he catches Pacman in the corner like he did Clottey.

Tough one to call but Manny has won my heart........I wish he would stop boxing because I get nervous every time but he keeps knocking suckers out! Although Cotto is no sucker.....

I can't believe the number of people who ignore that. Everyone says that Khan's "win" over Barrera was meaningless because Barrera fought with one eye for four rounds - yet they seem to think Cotto should be given no allowances at all for having fought with one eye for nine rounds!

        • huh

the relationship of manny and freddie roach is like a father and son, so freddie is the second parent of manny, as a second father of manny, freddie knows well whats best for his son. making a wise decision what a father have to do to his son,so let freddie decide for best of manny...

I agree. Its not going to make a difference for cotto who came in at 146 for the clottey fight. i think the fight will be more interesting than most people here think. Everyone seems to believe cotto is just going to come in at 160 on fight night and just dominate pacquiao. theyre both about the same size and have the same reach so its going to end up being a very good fight cuz pac doesnt get tired and you know hes not going to stand in front of cotto. he and freddie roach are going to make sure they tire him out for the late rounds when he starts backing up with his hands down.

im not really a fan of either but even though i want to see pac lose i dont see it happening. i say cotto is bleeding by the 5th and pac wins a unanimous decision simply by boxing. just sticking and moving. cotto will look lost.

              • and seee.... i havnt diss pac... not even once... all im doing is giving the guy props... but i know cotto is a good fighter also..

so i dont really care about the outcome... since im going to get a great fight!!!

i dont care about the outcome... but im rooting for mine 4 sure!!! u can bet that!!!

and the more ppl see cotto as a big underdog... the better odds im going to get on fight night!!!!

The only tool here is the one in your asss.

Dude how are you even gonna compare Clottey and hatton?? Pacquiao would not look as good if he fought Joshua CLottey at all. Pacquiao mightve been Knocked out, He broke down Zab Judah he mightve dne the same to Pacquiao

                    • Hey guys! What's the big deal on who wins the fight. Relax! Just take a seat and enjoy the fight. For sure it will be a great one. Whoever wins, will be great for the boxer. Whoever losses, doesn't degrade himself a bit coz he fought one of the best. Not like some boxers who runs away from the best opponents.
If Cotto losses, so what... He earns the biggest payday of his career. Then go on fight margarito, etc.
If Pacquiao losses, so what... He fought a very good bigger guy. Then go on to run for congress.
                      Peace..
