But the reason Pacquiao deserves to lose points for this is because Barrera was coming off a loss to Juan Manuel Marquez. That loss was a debatable one, but it was still a defeat. I'll admit that I thought De La Hoya was gonna cream Pacquiao too, but in hind sight I realize how hyped up that win really is. Roach went on record and said that De La Hoya was past it and couldn't pull the trigger anymore. He was going to penalize De La Hoya for however mangy pounds he came in overweight as well. All of these things will lead people to believe that Roach and Pacquiao are being slick with their matchmaking. And any reasonable minded person would know that Soto posed a bigger threat to Manny than those two guys did at the time.
iceta , what was soto's biggest win at 130? and when?

barrera and pacquiao was being planned but golden boy didn't want barrera to lose the wbc title to pacquiao.

gbp wanted marquez to have the belt.

that's why barrera fought marquez before pacquiao.

also why barrera left gbp afterwards i think.

he could have made more money fighting pac as a champ.

that said. just consider the barrera fight as a tuneup.

pacquiao was the #1 guy at 130. marquez was the #2 guy at 130.

    they fought.

    what's the problem?

because he didn't fight soto who was ranked below barrera , morales , marquez when he fought them?

soto didn't become one of the top guys at 130 'til AFTER barrera , morales , pacquiao AND marquez all left 130. you know this right?

hell soto was ranked below guzman and even juarez.

      i don't care.

tired of arguing the same thing over and over again.

roach is doing his job. he's trying to do what is best for his fighter.

to me it's unnecessary. i don't think 2 lbs. will make a difference.

      whether at a catchweight or 147 , it's a 50/50 fight for me.

pacquiao has nothing to lose. if he loses , he's not suppose to be fighting at 147 anyway.

roach will say whatever he wants. that's roach. doesn't change my opinion of pacquiao.
I don't think less of Pacquiao for all this. I just think Roach is going a bit over board and to an extent ... I mean it's a combat sport, why the need to try and deteriorate (or potentially) an opponent. **I know if put in Pac's situation (say fighting at 140) and Mayweather tried this to a Welter he's be criticized to no end.

but apparently some people do think 2 lbs will make a diff as why is Roach pushing for it in the first place? which brings us back right to where we started which is "what weight will the fight be at"

      but you get the idea.

and yeah man, I just wish the bull would be cut

no more catchweights, they don't prove anything. 17 divisions in boxing for ****s sake, lol.

In that case, I agree, he should have fought Nate or Casa. He would kick both their asses, IMO. But please, Nate or Casa fans, this is just my opinion, please don't start a flame war.

        • if it is up to roach the weight will be 140,same day weight in for cotto's belt, purse 80-20 and the fight in phillipines. guy is ****ing anoying.....cant blame pac cuz i kno he will fight at 147. i would say 145 or no fight manny is a strong foker that dont need to fight weakened opponents. oscar looked like a mommy couldt even punch...that fight was a shame for boxing. i wanna see a great fight were both contenders are in top shape. cotto knows that he need to be 100% i doubt he comes to fight between 150- 155 and manny should be around 145-147 so stop the bs and make it happen

145 pounds, 144 pounds. I'm getting way too wrapped up in this crap. Either make the fight or don't. I really don't give a **** who these guys fight, I'll be watching, but I am about to stop caring about the details as... of... right... now. I need to light a fat one.
what i was trying to point out in that article is that they say that they are going to try to get miguel as low as possible and they don't care if he's weight drained but of course you would ignore that part of the article

the fight is already done pretty much.

arum is just bsing around hoping floyd will meet him on his terms.

if floyd doesn't , pac-cotto will become official.

no point in everyone arguing really.

if they decide on 143 , 144 , 145 or whatever......cotto has 5 months to prepare himself to fight at that weight.

                • and who said cotto will be drained at 143lbs? cotto's natural weight is 140lbs. going down 5 pounds is no big deal for him but his camp want everything to turn in their favor. they should remember that pac's first fought at 106 pounds.

pacman is naturally smaller than cotto and a 143 pound catchweight is no way at his advantage. pacman's only advantage against the puerto rican is his speed and nothing more. if cotto wants to prove his worth as a welterweight, and to validate his controversial win against clottey he should agree to a fight with pacman at 143 pounds.

i dont believe cotto is physically drained at 143 lbs.

but even if the fight is at 147lbs, the outcome is the same.

pacman will demolish him worse than hatton. that's for sure!

                  • 147 or nothing. cotto can fight berto or mosley and unify the belts

                    • I think Roach is protecting his investment and knows that Cotto above 143 has his way with Manny. This is a tool to back out of a fight and not blame Manny for having this fight revoked by Cotto's camp. In other words Roach realizes that Cotto could win this fight at full health. 2nd with Floyd postponing JMM fight; they can now have Floyd vs Manny for the p4p #1 at stake which is a bigger fight than a Floyd vs Manny (who just lost to Cotto.)
