I do agree with you but.... I do wanna see Cotto vs Pacquiao. And yes if Pacquiao does want full credit, face Cotto/Mosley at 147 as a 147lb title will be on the line. Otherwise you might as well get some paper, plastic and glue and make Pacquiao a 142lb title cos a lot of people will just consider him another paper champ for not facing the Welterweights at 147.
No Offense to PAC Fans, but...

What I meant was that it won't last because that's just what boxing has become, multiple champs in way too many weight classes. Even if either Mosley or Cotto beat every other WW champ and became the sole champion, that would change in a few months anyways. So ti doesn't make a difference to just aim for Cotto-Mosley 2 to get the appearance of a unifed champ for a very short time. Its meaningless.Comment

But How much credit will either fighter get?
Cotto beats the smaller PAC?
Pac beats the drained Cotto?
You know that will be the case.
Meanwhile you have TWO champions at the top of the division.. Sure Cotto barely beat Mosley.. but Mosley RAN OVER Margarito who RAN OVER Cotto.
If there was ever a time for a rematch... it should be now.
But we have Pac lingering 7 pounds under, and nobody can stop looking at him.
But besides Mosley and Berto (who I still don't put in the mix), who hasn't Cotto fought at WW? The idea that one guy has to ONLY fight guys in his weight class may be justified if that person hasn't fought anyone credible in that division, but somehow holds a belt (sound familiar?). Pacquiao also has fought great fighters and continues to move up in weight and prove doubters wrong regardless of the technicalities people brand on his wins (particularly Oscar). But in the end, this is nothing new to the world of Boxing.
Henry Armstrong did it years before any of us were even thought of, how is Pacquiao fighting Cotto a bad move for either of them or for the sake of Boxing for that matter?Comment

The thing though is, we have to start looking at Boxing for what it is today. We don't live in the era anymore of having an Undisputed champ like we did with Oscar and Tito when they fought. Even as recent as this past fight with Clottey and Cotto, Clottey had to vacate his version of the belt in order to get a fight with a dude in his same weight class.

Under ww... Pac wont get full credit for a win.
And either way you slice it Cotto wont get full credit for a win over Pac at ANY WEIGHT just due to his size.
I have no problem with Pac wanting to move up in weight to prove himself... but prove yourself against other fighters at their best. Move up in weight and beat them at their weight. If they are too big, then stay in your weight class until you can handle it.Comment

Cotto says 147, Roach and Pac say 143-144. At this point, who really knows? IMO though, If Cotto does drop to even 145 and pac makes 142, I still think it's a pick em fight and a fair one. The weight issues always throws people to the left or right side of the boat, but the heavier puncher isn't always the one at an advantage with someone with Pacquiao's speed and vice versa with Cotto's power.
Contrary to the hardcore Boxing fans, the majority of people give Pacquiao credit for beating Oscar and Hatton. I can't see where people would find a way to dicredit either guy beating one another. It sounds more like a struggle of the way Boxing is and the way it used to be in all honesty. Pac vs Oscar started a ripple, trust me when I tell you that.Comment

I mean, it's yet to be seen where they're going to fight at.

Thats the way it SHOULD be...
And IMO every pound Cotto has to continue to take off, makes him less of a fighter.
Beat Cotto at his best, or don't fight him.Comment

Well, I can only talk about the way it should be.... and If pac wants to continue on to another division, and continue on with another divisions fighters... then he should fight them in their division.

I just think as the fight reaches near (if it does actually pass), people won't be looking at it as a mismatch as they may be looking at it now. I don't see Cotto fighting any higher than 147 at the moment, so if he does fight Pac win or lose, Im sure he'll fight the next available WW afterwards.
IMO they should make it a WW fight, period (141-147).Comment

I mean, I agree with you. There's a lot of things I wish would've or should've happened, but that's Boxing for you.

Theres too many excuses on either side... Either Cotto will be drained or Pac will be too small...
Meanwhile we have two welterweight champions at the top of the division, with an extrmely close fight.. meanwhile Shane runs over the guy who ran over Cotto..
That fight has much more meaning to me... who is at the top of the division? WHo is the unified champ?
Not... who was weight drained or who was too small...Comment
