I don't give a damn what weight it is at, just make Pacquaio vs Cotto. And when Pac beats Miguel, make Pacquaio vs Mayweather.

    Simple.

Natural(in this sense): Is when your weight is exactly within the limits of said division WITHOUT added training.

So, I think him fighting at WW would not be a problem for him. The problem with fighting at WW is that Cotto or any other WW besides Floyd Mayweather Jr. WILL absolutely weigh in at fight night around 160+. Which means he will be at a distinct disadvantage.

So Pacman fighting Cotto at a catchweight is reasonable. Cotto wont move up from 144/45 to 160 in a day/few hours. At the most he would probably go 150, which I believe wont be a disadvantage for Pacquiao at all. Im sure Hatton weight in around there at fight night.

Catchweight is reasonable. I dont think Cotto would be drained weighing in officially at 144/45 either.
hatton weighed 153 on fight night. If I were Pacquiao I'd roll the dice to immortality, fight Cotto at 147 and go out with a blaze of Glory! I give him a chance to pull it off. If he does it, i'll surely vote for him next year for the Presidency of our archipelago.... if only he were qualified (must be at least 40 years old on election day to qualify as candidate for the presidency, so he won't qualify until 10 years from now). But then again, maybe not, because I still want to see him fight in the ring.... Unless he continues to fight even when he is the President of the Philippines.... can you imagine the announcement by Michael Buffer "The reigning lb for lb and the ruling President of the Philippines, MANNY PACUQUIAO!" Geez immortal indeed

He is already an ATG, simple as that. This one's for immortality.

All though I DO NOT agree with your statement something can be said of Floyd.

When Floyd fought De La Hoya he accepted to fight him without no conditions and fought DLH at his wieght eventhough PBF was fighting at 147 and had never fought anybody at 154.

He even told DLH that he could come at any weight he wanted and he'll still fight him. DLH weighed in for the fight at 154 and PBF at 152.

Pacman should do the same and fight Cotto at 147 although i beleive Cotto could probably do 145, but that's pushing it, especially now that he will not be able to fully train for a good while because of the cut over his eye which will need at leat 1-1/2 or 2 months free from contact training.

BY the way in terms of height the advantage is only 1/2 for Cotto(5'7" vs 5'6.5") and in terms of reach they both are tied at 67".

True that the body frame of Cotto is bigger and that's one of the reason that it would affect him more and would be more difficult for him to lose weight than for Pacman to gain the weight.

Great F**** article!!! Someone should email this to Pacman advisors and Bob Arum. Don't get me wrong I'm a fan of both guys but this catchweight business is getting old. And then put the title on the line?? Pacman will give Cotto hell with out the catchweight.

I reckon Pacman should definately go for the 147 limit and get in with a top WW. He's an ATG now, and if he managed to beat a top WW at the genuine WW limit, that would be an outstanding achievment. Forget all this catchweight crap and make him get in with a real 147!

But why are these conditions taking place? Because YOU the fans want to see these bouts. Manny never was a true welterweight in his body frame. Sure he can weigh 147lbs no problem, but his actual frame isn't welterweight size. Now that he fought once at 147lbs against Oscar only to get his name out there, everyone thinks he can fight every opponent at 147lbs. So pushing him to fight these guys in a weight class he shouldn't be in, maybe that's why they ask for handicaps if you want to call it that. If he stayed in the division he belonged(140lbs), he'd have no problem facing fighters at "their" actual weight, but it looks like he cleared out one of the only guys worth paying to see fight at jr. welterweight in Hatton.

I think it will be at 145, personally.
