Can we at least give Clottey his props as an elite fighter?

I didn't even think that question deserved to be answered, since the fight was supposed to be a unification, and Clottey signed the contract before his deadline was up, and Cotto signed it a few days after it.

If he can't beat an elite fighter in that situation (as I said when we discussed this before, Cotto wins I will consider him elite again and he overcame a lot) I do not feel Clottey will ever beat an elite fighter. He is very good and it is not likely that a non elite fighters would beat him, he is a B+ but B+ is not an A.

Seeing a rematch with Cotto would be interesting to see if he would really go for the gusto, but if he could not take advantage of the situation last night to get a victory I doubt he will be able to do it from a fresh start (although I doubt he would get knocked down in the rematch).

Clottey's skills are elite. His heart? Not so much.

^ There we go. (Clottey has a sloppy lunging right). Couldn't be summed up any better though. Beautiful. One line.

Hell yeah. This man cannot be allowed to fall off the 147 radar - he either needs a rematch, or a Berto fight.

I guess, kinda like Margarito threw the same belt in the trash to fight Cotto as well, money. Not sure the top guys are going to be any more willing to jump in with Clottey after last night though. If I were Cotto, I'd fight Margarito first, even if I had to go to Mexico to do it.

He fought well last night although I think he could have done better.

I see what you mean, the stunts he pulled to buy time were uncalled for. But he had taken some good shots and fought pretty well out of the corner, so I think his heart was there, but his will was lacking.

Clottey was winning the fight but kinda faded late...its cool to say he's elite though.
