Every Cotto fight ends up being life and death lately. His career is going to be cut short if his defence does'nt improve.

he knew he couldnt hurt clottey so he didnt fight his usual fight, it was a testament to him being multidimensional rather than washed up imo. thats said i acctually think clottey beat him, and even if i didnt it was clottey who gave it away and not cotto who won it. he didnt look great but it might just be a case of a bad styles matchup, or clottey is just the better fighter (and always has been).
See I agree with some of this, this is what I meant when I said clottey does provide problems to cotto that other fighters wouldn't the style match up is tough for him, and again its a testament to him as a fighter and champion that he took the fight and can change strategy, people call it running but this is boxing people if standing there fighting fire with fire is gonna lose you the fight then its probably not that smart to do. I struggle to think of any ww's that could stand toe to toe with clottey and get the better of him. But there definitely is some hesitation in cotto, I can see it. His confidence is not what it once was

Yeah I agree. Everything seems to be a war. I think unless he employs another strategy he will only be able to fight at this level for a few more fights. He's gotten roughed up a lot lately.

how are you going to base cotto being "shot" or not on a fight where he could only use one eye for more than 80% of it? he destroyed michael jennings which doesn't mean much but that only lasted 5 or 6 rounds. you didn't get to see cotto warm up and get back to being himself. same with this fight. cotto didn't get a chance to fight his fight. he was on the defensive the entire night due to the fact that he was wounded so early on. the fight would have gone very differently without the cut. so this fight just like the jennings fight hasn't really cleared up the issue of "did the margarito fight take something out of cotto".

to be fair, cotto only goes life and death against tough opponents.

                  he needs a new trainer.
