    Miguel cotto: Some concerns

    First off Cotto should definitely be given credit for his level of opposition for the last couple of years, he is forming a great resume as he gets older. As for the fight I had him winning 114-113 the kd making the difference. Make no mistake clottey is a handful for anyone, I have thought for a while now he is one of the best 3 or 4 wel. in the world. He is strong and fast, and big, an absolute monster at the weight.

    I have to say though, I am slightly concerned about cotto...I can't quite put my finger on it, but I noticed it in the jennings fight and last night, its not that he is damaged goods but mentally he still seems affected by the tko. It could have been the cut but for me its something deeper, he isn't quite throwing everything into his punches, its like he is holding back, not fully committed to his shots and it has made him a touch slower. Its very subtle but it is there, it seems to me that he is thinking about and anticipating the shots that might come back. Its like he has lost his mojo a little bit, and maybe he needs a trainer to instill his full confidence back. I thought it was in my head, but having watched some of the pre-margarito fights and even the marg fight he definitely seemed a more assured and authoritive fighter.

    Anyway he is still a tremendous fighter regardless, but I hope I will see the old cotto back because in my eyes he isn't quite there yet. I think there is some self doubt there, and it nearly cost him last night I thought he was there for the taking but clottey lacked the killer instinct.

    What do you guys think, have any cotto fans noticed this?

    Even as a non-Cotto fan, I noticed how hesitant and downright flustered he looked at times (even as the cut stopped flowing). You're right, he looked much more authoritative in the Margs fight and prior - for Jennings and Clottey, he appeared to be in 'feeling out' mode most of the time.

    There's something different about him. All non-biased, mind. I might not agree with the decision, but I can still look at things objectively.

      I agree it seems like theres something missing, as if he doesn't throw his punches with intent.

      Out of interest how did you score the first round?

        That performance will shut up his most outrageous fans who now see what most of us always knew: you can't last in the sport of boxing if you get hit that much on a regular basis. Terminator who? Cotto looks very beatable. These people are now busy getting rid of gifs, crying and looking out for another nut sack to hang on too because there's no terminator left in Cotto.

          Yeah there is definitely something there, how did you score the fight out of interest? Like I said I had cotto, but it was one of those decisions, where you may have won the battle but lost the war, I though cotto was behind but out-boxed clottey in the last 2 rounds he was actually boxing very well off the ropes, although not landing much himself clottey wasn't landing anything and was following coto rather than cutting the ring off

            10-8, only if clottey had been dominant in the first 2 minutes then suffered the kd would i have scored it 10-9. Fact is that it was pretty much an even round until the kd so it has to be a 10-8 imo

                Don't know its hard to say cos clottey is a damn good fighter, but there is something missing, whether it is permanent or not only time will tell. I don't think its down to phyiscal damage, as he is still young, I think its more in his head

                  My scorecard, based on 1st viewing:

                  Code:
                  JC || 8  | 9  | 10 | 10 | 10 | 9  | 10 | 10 | 10 | 10 | 10 | 9  || 115
                  MC || 10 | 10 | 9  | 9  | 9  | 10 | 9  | 9  | 9  | 9  | 9  | 10 || 112
                  I had Clottey winning that opening round, but a KD has to be counted. Some of those later rounds (10th and 11th) could've gone either way, but I didn't see anything effective by Cotto.
