Murray Stops Lawton in Six at Robin Park Centre

The contest between John Murray and Scott Lawton was full of controversy before either man had stepped between the ropes at the Robin Park Centre in Wigan. Having failed to make weight by two ounces, Murray was stripped of his title, only Lawton would be fighting for the BBBofC British Lightweight Championship tonight. Scott Lawton has often been found wanting when stepping up in class, having been soundly beaten by both Jon Thaxton and Amir Khan. Now that there would be no title for Murray, his main objective would be in disposing of his opponent more spectacularly than his rivals. [details]

A good domestic fight! Hes ready for the next step now, looking forward to seeing if he can beat Thaxton if so, and hes convincing well.... i suppose hes above European level and is knocking on the world stage.

the commentators talked about fury fighting Oliver mccall.I think that would be a tough fight for fury.I don't care if mccall is 44 because he is active again & fought juan carlos gomez 18 months ago.I think mccall beats him.I think it's great fury wants to step up.I just met tye fields this morning & he has a fight next week in Edmonton.after he beats this guy he wants to fight here 4 times a year.if things go well next week he could be getting Oliver mccall up here to Edmonton next.thats the talk but nothing is solid.tye fields vs mccall & possibly mccall vs fury as well.hennessey sports showcased darrin barker here last year so nick hennessey is familiar with the casino fields fights out of so maybe fury vs fields in Edmonton...wishful thinking thou.

Fury vs Fields would be cool.

I'd pick McCall to KO both of them though.

I think Murray would beat Thaxton, but will come unstuck when he faces a European/world level guy who uses angles and movement.

He is a very good fighter in his own right, I guess it sounds disrespectful but whenever I see him, I just see Ricky Hatton Lite, as he doesn't punch as hard as Ricky and is wide open for the uppercut all the time.

Hobson was talking Juan Diaz, that would be a good war of attrition, imo. And he might as well have a go at that, why not?

No, doesn't sound disrespectful because it's not entirely inaccurate. He is a 'light' Ricky certainly, but I don't think 'lite' is the word that I'd use. The lad's young and tenacious. And whilst he leaves himself open for uppercuts often, he also dishes out one hell of an uppercut. His biggest issue is that he needs a trainer that'll give him a bit more finesse and at least something closely resembling a defence. I'd like to see Enzo take him on at some point, and with any luck, he'll be Manchester's next great white hope.

Also, does anybody have a link to where I can watch the fight? I can't see it here in the US (This is ironic by the way because I just posted on a thread bragging on how i can see all the fights now that I live in the US). It would be much appreciated, cheers.

I think he is a top fella. Never heard him speak really at length before, and the fact that he was so crushed by not making weight and offered no excuses and called himself: 'unprofessional' really speaks volumes for his character and desire, I hope he does well.

Not making weight may be a bit of a shot in the arm for his career too.

I think he is currently european, and fringe world-class. But lightweight is stacked. Murray might be better than I give him credit for, and I think he is very good, I just don't know if he could go on to be an elite lightweight.

He reminds me of Angulo a bit, although I dunno if it's just me that sees that resemblance.

I think Diaz might be a bit too big a step for him, might be best to take on someone like Alex Arthur, or maybe at a push Casamayor, who might be there for the taking at this point in his career. I think he'd probably learn a lot from fighting one of the past-prime skillful types.

But yeah, a scrap with Diaz would be exciting, I'm just worried that he isn't good enough to be honest, hope I'm wrong though.
