Thats incorrect.I think you guys are aiming at the wrong athletes. Most MLB, NFL, NBA, NHL, FIFA, ****ing PGA and PTA players make more than an elite boxer. You should be complaining about them being overpaid and not someone that recieves pain for a living.
Mid level and lower weight boxers are underpaid if anything.
It would be ridiculous to say that someone like Kevin Garnet or Lebron James is overpaid for the simple fact that they generate insane amounts of revenue for their organization. They get paid millions because they are WORTH millions.
Lebron james is worth 90 million to Nike because Nike will gross more than 90 Million in revenue from the Lebron James name and image.
When it comes to boxers, fighters like Wright or Hopkins will demand more than they are actually worth. These guys are not huge PPV draws, they are not huge draws in general so for Wright to ask for the amount he was asking is ******. It is very evident that they don't generate the type of money they are asking for.Comment

I think most fighters get paid fairly because the ones who get the most usually draw the most revenue. Most boxers take about 10 years and have to have no losses on the way theses days just to get to the level of getting elite pay, so they've earned it by then IMO.
In the NHL, NBA and MLB kids fresh out of high schools are getting millions without ever proving themselves, they're the ones that are overpaid IMHO. In the NFL the players at least have to prove themselves in college and they don't get guaranteed contracts when they finally do get paid properly, so the teams can cut then at anytime to avoid paying the player if he's under-performing or gets injured.Comment

HBO has a lot more money but they have a set budget on how much they're going to spend a year on boxing so they have to be more selective now that boxing isn't as popular as it was a decade ago in the USA. After HBO turned down the fight, GBP and Hatton figured some money and exposure was better then nothing from America!
If HBO was offered the fight for that low of a price I'm sure they would've aired it. HBO also didn't want to air the fight that early and Ricky wasn't going to fight Lazcano in the middle of the night (like he has in some of his past fights) to air the fight in Prime Time in the States. Ricky insisted on fighting Lazcano at a proper time in the UK as a thank you to his fans...Comment

I get what you're saying, but I don't agree with them being overpaid, unless you're talking about wealth distribution strictly within the sport. Boxers deserve and earn their checks regardless of the public interest because their craft is harder despite the interest, they just don't get it because boxing is a niche sport in the US. Boxers as a whole are underpaid. No because there is rediculously high demand for those sports.
Boxing is a niche sport, only a few fighters here and there are truly superstars.
Thats why im not complaining about guys like DLH and MAYWEATHER recieving 20 million plus dollar pay days. They deserve them. They earn them.
HBO does not need to pay 2 million bucks for WRIGHT-WILLIAMS because there was ZERO demand for it in comparison to these other BIG fights, like the one this weekend
I said in another thread today that HBO overpaid for that fight and they probably could have gotten it made for half because they're bidding against themselves since Showtime only pays $2-3 mil max and they didn't even want to give 2 mil for Vazquez-Marquez IV.Thats incorrect.

But to say elite boxers are overpaid is off, their job description involves having to take the risk of getting beat up and possible death, brain damage, etc. So **** no I don't think they're overpaid, they earn that ****. The distribution within boxing is bad, but Winky Wright put his work in throughout the years to deserve that paycheck.Comment

I understand what you're saying and I agree, but above anything, as a professional sport, boxing is a business. But to say elite boxers are overpaid is off, their job description involves having to take the risk of getting beat up and possible death, brain damage, etc. So **** no I don't think they're overpaid, they earn that ****. The distribution within boxing is bad, but Winky Wright put his work in throughout the years to deserve that paycheck.
Would you as a boxing promoter pay Winky Wright 3 Millions dollars because of the stripes he has earned through out his career knowing he most likely wouldnt generate a quarter of that in revenue?Comment
