Did you watch his early fights? His prime ended after he beat Steve Robinson. After that he started to fall in love with his power, and to neglect his boxing skills. It's easy to say that it was just because his competition improved but I don't buy that: he definitely wasn't the same fighter any more. The Hamed who beat Robinson would never have been knocked down by Kelly - Kelly wouldn't have been able to lay a finger on him. Barrera's a different matter, Barrera would probably still have beaten him, but the prime Hamed would have given Barrera a much tougher fight than he did in their actual fight. And Hamed didn't train seriously for the Barrera fight, that's well documented. Manny Steward threatened to walk out on him even before the fight because he wasn't taking his training seriously. I think in terms of pure talent, he ranks quite high among the ATGs, but because his prime ended as soon as he won his first title, I don't think his overall career ranks that high in the ATG list.

u beat me to it. the headgear the pillow gloves, only 3 rounds, and the fact that refs go out of their way to make sure fighters dont get hurt. a 60% ko percentage in the amateurs is great.

He was great in his prime, but sadly he lost the desire and the right people around him and suffered for it.

Haters will say he was never that good anyway because only mike tyson is allowed a short prime.

              Huge Naz Fan here.

              As a boxer-
              1. One of the only guys ever to have one punch KO power in Both hands

              2. Had amazing reflexes and was fast as hell.

              3. Very charismatic and entertaining. Either you loved him or hated his guts.

Due to his akward style when he got caught, most punches looked devasting but had more to due with him not having his feet planted and being off balance. (similar to Pac a few years back). Both had granite chins but get KD due to poor stances, lunges and being off balance. He also brought alot of attention to the lower weights and actually is the reason why little guys that are good can actually get paid. HBO put a lot behind him and he was the first star in the lower weights. Dont get me wrong, Im a huge fan of the lower weights but guys like Ricardo Lopez, Morales, Barrera etc when only big names to hardcore boxing fans. Hamed was the first true superstar.

I think it was someone's blog though, so take that with a grain of salt. I personally never liked his Mr. Invincible BS and was glad to see him brought back to earth when MAB caught him trying to jump around, basically making him look like a complete ass. He had hand speed and power (possibly overrated), but he was too annoying to watch.
thats ridiculous. tommy hearns had like 7 ko's in the amateurs and we all know he had devastating power in the pros. saying everyone was taking dives is as ridiculous than saying DLH took a dive against pacquiao.

That was a A class performance against Robinson just outclassed the man could'nt touch Naz at all..Hostile crowd as well and Naz just kept it together..
He looked great in some fights after that also but just slowly started to fade...
