boxasmash;5380586]well you seen "he won gold medal" "he at least went to olympics" thrown around here quite a lot to try and proove points.
Here ya but we still have to seperate amateur and pro careers because they are different. Some fighters are better pros because their style is suited for the pros. But, the amateur career is good to know because you are facing a variety of styles in the point system so it is interesting to see how one adapts. But this isn't the same amateur system that Foreman, Ali, and Robinson were fighting in. Unless I'm wrong about that and Calzaghe was in the Old School program...so let me know.

i believe he said it in his autobiography but there's many links on the subject, calzaghe would have been 20 at the time and byrd 22.
I'll have to look around for it a bit later but thanks for the info.

Mayweather had a successful amateur career of 84-6 he was raised in his home town.[4] He won national Golden Gloves championships in 1993 (at 106 lb), 1994 (at 114 lb), and 1996 (at 125 lb).

            Mayweather > Calzaghe

21 world title defenses, beat 6-8 former world champions, beat what 3-4 former world champions? Moved up to lhw and beat the best lhw hopkins at his first fight at that weight.
