you are correct on this point.
it was a compromise to fight at welterweight even though oscar was a super welterweight and pacquiao was a lightweight.

it might have been a compromise between the 2 but it was still fought at the welterweight limit.

catchweight to me is a limit between divisions like if cotto and pac fight at a weight limit of say 144.

that said 1 fight at 147 against a guy who isn't ranked at 147 does not get you ranked there.
So, pardon me for being dumb, Mayweather is currently not ranked at welterweight according to this list:

So fighting with JMM doesn`t get PBF ranked for fighting at WW?

Since PBF is not ranked at ww, he is more capable of fighting Cotto,Mosley,Clottey at that weight than Pacquiao?

So do you think PBF should be rated at ww after PBF-JMM since it is a catch-weight and PBF is not yet campaigning at ww?

well, we are working w/ 2 different definitions of "catchweight".

exactly, how do you get ranked for WW by fighting a lightweight at WW? that's nonsense.

OK, thanks for the clarification. So PBF-JMM aftermath would not rank both boxers at welterweight. Nor has Pacquiao been ranked at ww. Point cleared.

i don't even know what the real definition of catchweight in boxing is. catchweight is more a horse racing term.

to me it's any agreement by 2 fighters for a weight limit in between divisions.

i guess any agreement between 2 fighters for a weight in between their weightclass can be called a catchweight.

still it's weird to call 147 a catchweight. 147 is the weight limit for welterweight. can't you just say oscar moved down to welterweight and pac moved up to welterweight?

Mayweather has fought 5 matches at WW and beat Judah,Hatton,Baldomir,Hoya and Sharmba Mitchell. Pacquiao is smaller than Mayweather and would be at a disadvantage I thinkl.

Yes, I vaguely remember, the HBO TV announcers mentioned Pacquiao as ranked at ww right before/after the dela Hoya fight. Am not sure though, could b a mistake.
