"The plan was one fight and then a potential bigmoney fight against Hatton," added Mayweather, who will be taller, have longer reach and is naturally about one stone heavier than Marquez.

Where does that say anything about retirement? The plan was one fight (tune-up) and then a big money fight. Ok. That does leave open a desire for another big money fight after that.

If Hatton beat Pacquiao I don't think it wudda warranted a rematch but it woulda been shocking...

If Hatton would have beaten Pacquiao then everyone would have said that Hatton is not the same fighter that Mayweather beat in 07. Everyone would have been giving Hatton a much bigger chance in a rematch. That's how boxingscene works, a couple of wins and you have yourself a bandwagon.

Why is anyone surprised, it was clear that before hatton/pac got signed that floyd was negotiating with ricky for a rematch. high reward vs. low risk is the name of the game.
