The situation is not the same as Mayweather-Marquez because Pacquiao is proven at 140+ and if both parties agree to a catch weight of 144, what's the big deal? By signing the contract, Cotto says "I can make 144". If he fails to be effective at this weight, that's on him, just as it was on Oscar and his "professional" team of nutrition specialists and trainers to prove he could make 147.

Now, the situation with Mayweather and JMM is different because Juan is not only unproven at 140+, but also looks quite small and occasionaly kinda uncomfortable as a lightweight. Marquez was being pushed around by Juan Diaz. But here's what we have to take into account -- Marquez was probably moving to 140 anyway. The reason why is because he is chasing Pacquiao. Personally, I feel 140 won't be his ideal weight class. Mayweather knows this, too. I guarantee it.

So, IMO, 144 is pushing it, but hey, Juan wanted the fight. He obviously believes in himself, and at the very least, he's in for a pretty decent payday. Personally, I would have wanted a fight or two at 140 before stepping up to 144 and taking on Mayweather.
This is all very valid and respect for a good post. Alot of it is speculation and unanswered questions about how JMM will handle the weight. Chances are he wont handle it al well as Pac but we dont know that yet. But either way it doesnt make PBF a *****.

clottey was never anything but a contender till he beat judah for a vacant belt so he should be taken out of the equation
              margo has beaten no 1
mosley and floyd have been dancing for years so i cant speak on that....floyd beat who he needed to beat for the lineal strap and the most money-which is just common sense anyone with a brain wouldve taken that fight..and oscar at 154 is a tougher fight than..margo,cotto

Again, I dont think either is a *****.
                    I dont think either is a *****.

The perception seems to be that Floyd can make 140, so making Marquez move up even more weight might make people think it's a "***** move". I also think Pacquiao is more natural at the higher weights than JMM is anyway.

I mean in this case Floyd presents the money, so he gets to pick and choose his opponents. Cotto turning down a huge payday on principle would be quite foolish.

And I seem to be int he minority that thinks Pacquiao is still a huge threat at 144 against Cotto.

The only ***** for wanting to get people to unhealthy weights is Roach.

Cotto should fight Mosley next, but if Pac wants it it should be at 147, same if he fights FLoyd.

You want to fight WWs fight them at their weight, dont get people to unhealthy weights, to claim you beat them.

FLoyd fighting JMM at 144 is a ***** move, because Marquez has not fought above 135 simly as that.
