PAUL WILLIAMS calls out the entire SUPERMIDDLE weight division, who will accept?

Williams couldnt drop winky. He whooped him but didnt knock him down. Everyone in the smw division would take his punches with no problem. Froch would have a filed day with williams and since he's trying to push himself into the limelight he might just take williams up on the offer.

In my mind Williams style is enough to give anyone trouble from WW to SMW maybe even LHW. he has a big frame and if he can carry his speed and stamina at higher weight classes like he has shown at MW then the sky is the limit. now I know I have posted before against P Will but that was at WW because to me after a while the BIGGER MAN calling out these SMALLER WW seems like a bully crying over spilled milk when no one steps up to the challenge. Nuff said about that cause P Will at MW and SMW gets me excited. Seeing him in there with JT would be a good test for him. he already blitzed Winky (granted an older version) but he beat him rather easily. his punch output is hard to deal with even for a defensive minded fighter like Winky. So to me all we have to find out is if P Will can take a punch at that weight from a decent puncher. To me Winky has no pop in his punches.
Jermain Taylor -Seeing him in there against JT who has decent power and skills would be a good test. JT would have his hands full since we all know he has stamina issues as we have seen in most of his big fights. P Will does not wilt in later rounds he keeps up his crazed pace throwing punches like a mental patient from all angles. Honestly I do not think this is a good fight for JT to take. At this point he needs a confidence booster type match up and P Will might take his heart for good if he still even has one?
Carl Froch - In my book would be perfect prototype for P Will to fight in his first match up. he has decent power so we might have our questions answered about the Punisher's chin at SMW but he is very slow and telegraphs all his punches. JT was handling him with ease until his tank emptied out and he got his cabbage knocked in. Williams throwing multiple punch combinations and sticking that long snapping jab in Froch's eye all night might bring an early end to the competition. I even see Williams traveling to the UK to take his titles back to America with him. I see this as being easily done and Froch might be one to take the challenge.
Mikkel Kessler - Honestly the only fight I have seen Kessler in was against Joe Calzaghe. Seeing that he fights all of his fights out of the USA I don't get to see much of him. I hear how good he is and he gave JC one hell of a fight but I don't know enough about him to make comments here. Honestly don't think Mikkel would take the fight. he definitely wouldn't be the first to take the plunge.
Andre Ward - Although I complained and moaned about his victory well really the way he got his victory against Edison Miranda I am going to be the first to admit I was making biased comments. I was pulling for Miranda and first reaction was to complain about the tactics used. I rewatched the fight and realized that he just out bullied the bully. He did what was needed to do to win. With that being said I think he would take the plunge and he might have what it takes to beat P Will. He was throwing all different types of styles at Miranda and getting off quickly and then rushing in to smother Miranda's punches. This tactic may work against Williams. By no means am I saying it is going to be as easy but P will is still young by most means and hasn't really been challenged that way. He might get frustrated and we could see a Quintana performance again. To me Ward vs. Williams might just be the fight we would see if he decides to make that jump.
WILD CARD BONUS
Chad Dawson - There is really no one left to fight at LHW for him. Dawson has expressed the possibility of this happening before. If Chad decides to jump in at 168 and try to get a big fight I wouldn't mind seeing Dawson and Williams throw down. Chad doesn't have great power but he has quick hands and uses many combinations. The two south paws clashing in the ring would make for a great fight in my mind. Dawson mixes in head and body shots and throws punches in bunches. Williams throws an onslaught of various punches has that stiff snapping jab and he can hit you from the dressing room with those long arms. This fight interests me more than any of the other I mentioned.....Lefty

In my opinion Paul Williams is definition of a virtuoso meaning he has the skillset to do things the average and even the not so average fighter can not.
He is in the same position Mayweather was in until 2005, NOBODY wants to fight him because he is too much risk with not half the reward in return.
And just like Mayweather he is going to have to force boxing to pay attention to him by putting boxing and it;s writers in a corner and making them have no choice but to rank him the #1 fighter in the sport or in the top 3.
Because Paul Williams doesnt not have the luxery of having a built in fan base like most latino fighters have. Paul Williams is not from a 3rd world country is which he is their national star to the world. So that means Paul Williams is going to have to take the hard road and Market his skillset just Mayweather,Roy Jones, Shane Mosely all had to do. And you can see he recognizes that now and he is willing to take the risk neccessary in order for him to put boxing into a corner and make the writers and the pundits rank him as #1 in the sport.
And he does that by proving people wrong.
He does that by beating people's favorite fighter.
he does that by fighting the fights that mean something.
meaning get the belts and get more belts and than move up and get more belts.
Floyd Mayweather proved no matter what People will pay to see the best fight even if you are a defensive fighter, if you are considered the best in the entire sport of boxing, you dont have to chase the money nomore the money will chase you.
Paul Williams IMO now, Just needs to start proving people wrong and in matter of time boxing will have no choice but to recognize him as the best in the sport for his body of work just like they had to do with Mayweather.
and fighting guys like Andre Ward, Carl froch, and kessler would go a long way in proving people wrong.
and fighting a guy like chad dawson would quickly rocket him to fame just because he would be fighting against all the odds... and if he wins this could be his deigo corrales fight which rocketd Mayweather into stardom.Last edited by Horus; 05-19-2009, 11:11 AM.

Jermain Taylor probably has the skills to beat Paul Williams, but certainly not the stamina.
If Carl Froch truly wants to continue risking it all by facing the best, Paul Williams is another step up from JT.
Lucien Bute has a great thing going on in at the Bell Centre in Montreal, no way he'd risk that. Paul Williams would school him.
Mikkel Kessler is also another interesting match-up, he put out a statement a couple months ago that he wants to fight the best in America, again Paul Williams is a good option.

At least the not so casual fans would want to see it. If it took place in Chad's hometown maybe in the Foxwoods? They would have to put a good under card with it for it to sell. I also think that one of them would have to have a title. I see Paul fighting at SMW for a title. Like we said maybe Froch? Winning that bout and taking home that title in order to lure Dawson down to 168 to fight for another belt. In my mind this fight makes no sense or dollars unless there is a belt involved. Williams would have to make the plunge into SMW grab a piece of the pie and then maybe Dawson would come down in weight to fight him. I can't see paul jumping up to LHW to challenge Dawson he would be atoo much of a disadvantage....Lefty
I think if Williams could take 6 months starting right now and dedicate himself to a weight program maybe he could pulled a mosely and get some $1000 vitamins he could build his strength and weight up he could dominate the MW and SMW division. The only thing lacking in his game is Power...If he had Power he would be unstoppable and a better version on Tommy HItman Herns because unlike Hearns Williams has Stamina even Steward made this coment...
Dawson Just needs to make a decision either moved down or Moved up or be like Joe Calzaghe and dominate a ****ty division for 10+ years until fighters come into your division..like (Paul Williams)
