Joe Calzaghe Would Continue if Knocked Out Like Hatton

Hold on a sec...I never said he was scared. As Hopkins says himself "he fears no man who breaths the same air as him", but he knew it was a dangerous fight. I don't buy King having anything to do with it, he was content calling out smaller guys and fought weak opposition instead of Calzaghe. There's no excuse for this, it's a fact that he ducked Calzaghe.Comment

I dont think anyone is ****** enough to believe he was scared but he obviously thought it was a risk. He beats Calzaghe and people shrug their shoulders, he loses and his career is bolloxed.
Similar to why he wont fight Dawson now. The risk doesnt match the reward.Comment

I don't know what went on in those contact negotiations? Did Joe sign anything? did Hopkins pull out? was it Don King's fault or did Frank Warren **** about again?
No one really has a scooby in all honestly except it was in a couple of newspapers and a few chinese whispers on Showtime.
I'm bored. This is ****!
There was a good post by IMDAZED about it a while ago, whom I consider to be one of the most knowledgeable and unbiased posters on here:
He upped his demands because King was getting too large a share. Simple. Bernard Hopkins spent much of his middleweight career without a promoter and never enjoyed a good relationship with the ones he worked with. Don King controlled the other middleweight champs and wisely kept them away from Hopkins who he couldn't control and refused to sign with him. When Tito moved up from 154, he and King had outlined a plan where he'd fight William Joppy at 160 and Roy Jones at a catchweight. When Hopkins realized that - now 36 - he truly was going to be blackballed, he beat his chest, showing up and disrupting every press conference claiming there could be no true tourney without him. But he had to sign with King. That's what he did. These are facts, google away.Comment

He was fine lacing King's pockets if he could get in the ring with a smaller guy.
I'm only a part timer here but I strongly disagree with that. He's knowledgeable but definitely biased from what I've read.Comment

Maybe I should have said "objective" rather than "unbiased". He has strong opinions but backs them up, is not a hater of any boxer, and appreciates and acknowledges the qualities of even the boxers he doesn't like.Comment

Show me one post in this thread that calls him an ATG or legend in world terms. No one in this thread has said that, so why all the hate? You seem to be reacting to posts that were posted in some other thread rather than this one.
He's a sure fire Hall of Famer, he was a great fighter, and in strictly UK terms he is rated by most in the top 5 of all time, so in strictly UK terms he's an ATG and a legend; but I wouldn't rate him as an ATG in world terms, and I certainly wouldn't call him a legend in world terms, because of his resume.
But you go to the opposite extreme, and in my book, haters and nuthuggers are cut from the same cloth as each other, and are two sides of the same coin. Just because you don't like the nuthuggers (none of whom have posted in this thread) doesn't give you an excuse to be an irrational hater.
Calzaghe is a very good fighter. A very good champion. Hall of famer. nothing more, nothing less.
But i have heard on occasion calzaghe talking about he's one of the greatest figthers of all time & i have seen plenty of joe huggers claim legend status based on beating roy & bernard & the undefeated record.Comment
