That's Hopkins spouting bull****. He was offered a career high payday and then went on to price himself out after he'd agreed. He'd just got his recognition from beating Tito and didn't want to risk the position he'd worked himself into. Can you imagine if the roles were reversed and Calzaghe pulled out of the fight saying it was because he'd bad blood with Warren. We'd never hear the end of it if that was the case, but somehow Hopkins gets away with it.(a) The Sun doesn't always print the truth, but in the case of fact base articles, the Guardian does not make things up. It has an international reputation for fact checking comparable to the New York Times or Washington Post. (b) It was well known at the time, Showtime confirmed it, and many Hopkins fans remember it. Several of them have told me on these forums that they remember Hopkins saying that the real reason he pulled out was because of his bad blood with Don King at the time.Comment

Very true. People already cling desperately onto the fact that Calzaghe pulled out of fighting Johnson through injury........That's Hopkins spouting bull****. He was offered a career high payday and then went on to price himself out. He'd just got his recognition from beating Tito and didn't want to risk the position he'd worked himself into. Can you imagine if the roles were reversed and Calzaghe pulled out of the fight saying it was because he'd bad blood with Warren. We'd never hear the end of it if that was the case, but somehow Hopkins gets away with it.
Hopkins also priced himself out of fights with Jones and Toney around the same time.Comment

I don't know what went on in those contact negotiations? Did Joe sign anything? did Hopkins pull out? was it Don King's fault or did Frank Warren **** about again?
No one really has a scooby in all honestly except it was in a couple of newspapers and a few chinese whispers on Showtime.
I'm bored. This is ****!Comment

I don't believe that for a minute. Hopkins has priced himself out of a lot of fights, most recently Adamek, whom he would beat easily. I don't defend him for doing so, but I think the idea that he did so because he was scared is ridiculous.Last edited by Dave Rado; 05-18-2009, 07:30 PM.Comment

And they forget to add that he pulled out a couple of times against Sheika aswell among others...so he must have been scared of them too. lol
