And thats the part that is bull****. On one hand, when its time to do a mandatory, or take on a tough fighter who maybe doesnt being $10 million to the table, all you hear is "the belts dont matter", "they are bigger than the titles", etc., etc., blah, blah, blah. But funny how all of a sudden the title DOES matter, so he can call himself a "7 division champ". Its ***ing weak.
You want to fight at 143? Fine, have at it. But leave the 147 title out of it.Comment

honestly I could care less about the 147 lbs title being on the line, that's just a perk of seeing them fight. And thats the part that is bull****. but if mosley and cotto don't like catchweights, they can go and fight each other. problem solved.Comment

There will be excuses because Pac would be fighting another Dead Man.
Fight the Man not the Scales. Fight a Healthy fighter.
Chris Byrd fought Wlad and Vitali. Now that is crazy. Of course since it was the "HW" division, the "MAN'S" division, it goes unnoticed and we hype up the boy divisions instead.
Although, when you are HW Champ like Tyson was at such a young age and the impact he made on the sport, even though few noticed how small he was compared to his opponents, you become a Dem-God.
Remember, Floyd is the same weight as Pac come fight-night yet people call Floyd a *****.Last edited by Benny Leonard; 05-17-2009, 05:55 PM.Comment

Im not saying he shouldnt thats up to him I just dont think its fair to dog Manny for it as its a big handicap for him to give away ,,, as far as Floyd doing it with Oscar that really dosnt tell the story because Floyd has more height and the better style more suited for these bigger weight jumps a bit like Camacho going to middle and Jones going heavy , Manny on the other hand is very short and more like to fight fire with fire which doesnt suit being way smaller , and then we are talking ODH compared to Cotto and Mosley who I feel are both better than Oscar at the time Floyd fought him , yes I dont think Manny is on Floyds skill level as far as jumping weights but he is definitely on Floyds level as far as them fighting one an other , does that make sense ,, this whole deal is very caught up in hype and its messes with the much manipulated 30hr weigh-in and massive jumps in fight time weight , it was never designed to be manipulated the way modern fighters and trainers do today , it was a safety net for fighters fighting dehydrated and now is a black hole in boxing that too many people ignore .Comment

This was all started by Flip Homansky when he convinced the powers that be that fighters needed to be able to rehydrate (at the expense of the fighter who is actually fighting in the proper weight class). Promoters didnt object because it provided another media/exposure opportunity (the day-before weigh-in), as well as providing more time to replace bouts that fell out due to someone on the card not making weight.this whole deal is very caught up in hype and its messes with the much manipulated 30hr weigh-in and massive jumps in fight time weight , it was never designed to be manipulated the way modern fighters and trainers do today , it was a safety net for fighters fighting dehydrated and now is a black hole in boxing that too many people ignore .
The experiment has not worked, and we should go back to same-day weigh ins. Yes, initially some fighters will be hurt or disadvantaged due to not fully rehydrating, but in the end everything will correct itself because fighters will ultimately have to move up to a division they are more effective in.Comment

Good post and I think your right same day weigh-in is the only way to bring some order into the divisions , would be funny watching 99% of fighters of today jumping a weightclass because they cannot fight at the current weight they weigh-in at 30 hrs earlier .This was all started by Flip Homansky when he convinced the powers that be that fighters needed to be able to rehydrate (at the expense of the fighter who is actually fighting in the proper weight class).
