  • Carl Froch vs Calzaghe's lagacy...

Ok, before i start i'd just like to say i'm a big fan of both these guys and i'm trying to be objective, trying to create debate and adult conversation

Most people agree that Calzaghe is the best SMW ever, there are a few that dont but for the sake of this argument we'll go with the majority. The question is....is there anyway Froch COULD surpass him in most peoples eyes? Hear me out...

Both Froch and Calzaghe's resume is fairly weak so far (at least until Calzaghe became more main stream), Calzaghe definitely has the edge with Eubank, Lacy, Kessler, Hopkins, Jones Jr as well as a few names like Reid, Sheika, Michall, Woodhall but could Froch get the big fights in in the time he has left to surpass him in terms of lagacy?

Froch is willing to fight anyone, anywhere! And assuming he can win every fight he has left before he retires (which is a big big ask i grant u) who would he need to fight to be considered 'greater' than Calzaghe? Or is Calzaghe's lagacy untouchable at this point due to his 11yrs as world champion? Froch beat a solid Pascal, a good Taylor...what if he went the route most people said Calzaghe should and fought and beat Pavlik? then Abraham? Who else? Hopkins? Kessler? I m not saying he will beat these guys but for this argument to work we have to assume he will??

Froch can surpass Calzaghe but I doubt he will, he doesn't have to be a titlist or champion for 11 years with over 20 title defenses, it's who he beats that counts.

Jones Jnr should not be on your first list. He was already knocked COLD YEARS ago by Glen Johnson and Antonio Tarver. Eubank was coming to the end. Only Lacy, Kessler and Hopkins are truly good wins for Joe IMO. He went toe to toe with Reid and won a very close decision.

I think Calzaghe is a good boxer but I look more favourably on Froch. His bout with Jermain Taylor and Pascal was more exciting than Cazaghe's whole career, bar the obliteration of Lacy.

No, if Froch keeps taking dangerous fights he WILL lose, because he is not good enough to sustain an unbeaten run against the best fighters. Simply because he is not good enough or as good as Cazaghe was.

People need a reality check, he was 10 sec away from losing that fight.

I agree. His mentality can make him great, but he doesn't have the skills to back it up. Heart and power will only get you so far.

I think beating another top 2 SMW's such as Bute and Kessler (if either take a fight, both seem to be avoiding) will put him on par with Calzaghe.

I m not sure beating just 1 other top SMW will put him on par with Calzaghe, Froch's resume is weak other than his last 2 fights. Froch needs to beat a couple of big big names, a Pavilk for example..

But he didn't lose it, he won it by comprehensive TKO. Froch needed a KO (as it turned out), set out to get it and got it; you could just as easily argue that's the mark of a champion not cause for a 'reality check'. Not saying I disagree with your assessment, I don't, but ten seconds from the end, or ten from the start Taylor was beaten; more so than by any scorecard decision.

I meant 2, i just worded it wrong. If he fights at least two top SMW's or even a Pavlik, Abraham and beats them (long shot), then i think it could be argued that his resume is just as good, as these opponents are more prime and arguably better then Calzaghe's best wins (apart from Kessler who was undefeated going into Joe)

Froch will never have the legacy Calzaghe had and he isn't even half the fighter Calzaghe is.

The thing is Calzaghe's legacy could of been better.
