If anyone can beat Mayweather, it's JMM. Same for Pac vs Cotto.

That's the starting point everybody needs to deal with and agreed upon. The sticking point that needs to be threshed out before a fight can even begin. As long as they agree on this, it doesn't matter how much their opponents weigh during the actual fight.

Weight during weigh-in matters so much because it will have a great effect during fight time. You know why ODLH didn't gain his desired weight during fight time? Because they drained him so much the day before.
Sure, JMM may go up to 144 during weigh-in but how much fat will be there compared to weighing in at 135 of pure muscles and just rehydrate to 147 the next day?
If Cotto can optimally rehydrate by 14 pounds, then weighing 144 translates to only 158 at fight time rather than 161 if he started at 147. He cannot over do his rehydration because he can be sluggish with too much intake of food and water within 30 hrs. It can even upset his stomach.
It's the weigh-in that levels the playing field.
If Hopkins can weigh in at 147, don't you think he will be beatable by any welterweight regardless how much he weighs in at fight time?Last edited by blacksocks; 05-12-2009, 02:34 AM.
