Dawson Decisions Tarver Over Twelve, No Revenge

At the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino, Las Vegas, IBF light heavyweight champion Chad Dawson (28-0, 17KOs) won a unanimous twelve round decision over Antonio Tarver (27-6, 19KOs) to retain his title. The scores were 116-112, 117-111 and 117-111 for Dawson. He breaks Tarver's streak of winning return bouts. Prior to the fight, Tarver had never lost a rematch. [details]

Not too exciting and not too impressive by dawson. Tarver did pretty good, he stunned chad a few times but he just didn't throw enough hard punches, too many ***** shots. Dawson as usual fights in spurts, I don't know, he has great speed and good combo's but his style wont entice any of the big names to fight him. He should just rematch Johnson. Although Tavoris Cloud has been waiting to fight Dawson, I believe he is his mandatory, that would be a sick fight and Cloud does have the power to KO dawson but I'm not sure if he has the skills or experience to beat him.

We should see Dawson-Johnson II, unless someone from 168 calls out Dawson, which is highly unlikely. Cloud hasn't fought in a year, he doesn't deserve the fight now because of that, he can't just be mandatory forever. I say Dawson deserves another voluntary defense and Dawson-Johnson II should happen.

I don't think his name nor reputation nor pedigree carry anywhere near enough reward for Calzaghe or Hopkins. The guy just doesn't seem like a very natural boxer. He fights in bursts and plants his feet when he flows his flurries, not sure he can box on the move yet. He's very athletic and strong and that will win him a lot of fights but I until he proves otherwise he doesn't look like anything special. As HBO said, and I think they maybe spot on, he is a B + fighter who can capitalize on a weak division. An impressive resume for a young fighter though ( Tarver x2, Johnson, Adamek) but I can't really see him making any huge improvements as he is a solid fighter but nothing is outstanding about him

                I honestly don't agree with 117-111. lol

I thought Tarver won more than 3 rounds in that fight.

He looks alright, neat and tidy and doesn't get hit often.

Got clipped a few times, but Tarver does mainly throw arm punches, he is not or probably ever was a big puncher.

Fair play to Tarver, he's had a good career, maybe he'll ride off into the sunset now.

Cloud didn't fight because he is Dawson's mandatory, and he has been for some time now. I don't know if he anticipated there would be a rematch between Tarver so maybe that's why he's been inactive, figured he'd just wait it out. He definitely should have fought a tune up or whatever since then imo, but he still is his mandatory regardless.
