'Deserved'?! Is that a joke? If not, in a thread full of BS, that really takes the biscuit. Calzaghe wanted the RJJ fight, because he wanted to fight and beat Jones. Indeed the pair of them wanted ir so much they dispensed with the usual middle-men and agreed the whole thing, including a straight 50/50 split, over their cellphones.

When the RJJ fight was arranged 'Bad Chad' (and, as I've said, i am a fan) had just won his first belt in a highly debatable win over Johnson, the only name on his record at that time. Do I really have to spell out Jones' record!!

I didn't say it was. But neither were 'names', including Adamek at the time. Think about it... are you really saying Calzaghe was thinking "Jeez... I really must fight this guy, he's beaten Adamek" when RJJ was the fight he was after?

It isn't about fighting Jones or Dawson as he could of fought both. He retired so the point is moot either way but lets be realistic. Dawson would of been one of his best wins to date and not just a name like Roy.

exactly, i would have given Joe more credit for a guy like Dawson, win or loose, even credit for just having the balls to face him, then for Jones.

If calzaghe gets so much credit for Roy, then guys like Tarver, and Johnson should get even more love. At least they fought Roy when he was beginning to slide and they beat him up worse than Joe did. Calzaghe fought a walking zombie in Roy.

The whole point of Calzaghe fighting Dawson was not about selling tickets, it was about finally beating someone who is evenly matched with him to solidify his resume.

The point is Lacy and Kessler are two of the best names on his resume and what have they achieved besides hype? Who are their best wins? I don't want to sound like a Cal hater but when you start throwing around the names of these ATG legends I must intervene.
