The whole point of Calzaghe fighting Dawson was not about selling tickets, it was about finally beating someone who is evenly matched with him to solidify his resume.
Buncey's Chad Dawson Rant

He's right tho, Boxing is a business first and foremost
If it was just about the sport then fighters would have stayed amatuerComment

Hey Buncey you fat ****, what did Manfredo do to get a shot at calzaghe at the millenium stadium?
Keep the excuses coming.Comment

All he was saying, albeit in the usual Buncey fashion, is that Chad Dawson doesn't shift tickets and get big PPV audiences.. and providing the facts to back it up. Dawson is actually one of my favourite fighters, and I'd love to see him fight B-Hop or Calzaghe (or Kessler or Froch at 168) but that doesn't change those facts. B-Hop won't fight him because he can make literally millions more fighting other people.. even Froch FFS, because of the UK market. Calzaghe won't come back to fight him because the reward would be peanuts, he has nothing to gain from the fight, and it doesn't even motivate him enough to get back in the gym.
Chad's time will come, but it won't come easy.
Bull****.
cory spinks got a fight against Taylor, who then was an undisputed champ. Spinks cant sell out **** anywhere, he has to drag in his homeboys just to fill in the crowd in his hometown of St. Louis.
And what's bull**** about Calzaghe fighting old men? I guess Hopkins, Jones, Eubank were in their respective primes when he did a job on them right? Well those are the names that make up his Hall of Fame resume. Guys like Lacy, Kessler, Reid, Brewer, and Bika are all good guys. But they are not the guys that build your 'legacy'.Comment

I agree as well tbh . If Calzaghe was to fight again his closest rival would be B-Hop 2 . Calzaghe finished on top thats why he 's probably better staying retired , he's not really got anything else to prove , to much to lose and to little to gain .Comment

Not when Calzaghe actually fought Peter Manfredo Jr., he didn't. People seem to like to forget that Dawson wasn't even a contender for a Calzaghe fight until he beat Tarver, by which time the Calzaghe v. RJJ fight was about to happen. With the rematch, by the time a Calzaghe Dawson fight might first have feasibly happened, late 2009, Calzaghe will have been retired a year.Comment

There's no 'lol' about it, it's just the way it is. What 'should' happen can't win against what does happen. The only way around it is to get championship fights as a mandatory challenger, but neither B-Hop nor Calzaghe give a **** about belts.Last edited by The_Visitation; 05-07-2009, 01:44 PM.Comment
