Boxing is built on your resume and who you beat and when you beat them, which is how Larry Merchant judges fighters. Lyle is a writer who is down with this generation of fans who are all about "talking big" being just as good as actually doing it. I'm feel people like Mr. Fitzsimmons are very plastic in nature by the fact that they come to the defense of a modern fighter who has yet fight someone in their prime. I would dare even say Lyle Fitzsimmons could have been paid off by Mr. PBF himself . Mayweather last turned down a fight with Mosley after Mosley beat Margarito (I saw that here on this site!). As I see it right now Mayweather Jr. would get beaten by an aging SSM. Not good for Mr. Money's bank account for sure so PBF will avoid any type of "suga" in his diet. Mayweather may be taking the villain approach to promoting but then runs around the ring against fighters who have no way of catching him, that my friends will have to change and I can say there are 3 legitimate opponents who can catch and beat Floyd right now.
you hit the nail right on the head. like ronnie nathanielsz, this lyle fitzsimmons clown has no business writing about boxing.

I hate 2 crush the feelings of everyone who is jumping on the Pacquiao bandwagon but Manny has no chance against Floyd Mayweather jr. It might be a great fight but in the end Floyd will win because that is what he does! For all those critisizing Floyd and claiming he was 2 scared 2 fight bigger fighters, then why did he move up at 154 pounds 2 fight De La Hoya?
The only person who has a chance 2 give Floyd his first loss at 147 pounds is Paul Williams!

Floyd has had some questionable decisions himself. I would rather watch Baldomir vs Gatti or Pac vs ANYBODY rather than Floyd. He tried, yet failed overshadowing Pac on the day of the fight. Pac is the man. Bye bye Floyd. Stay retired.

we don't care about floyd's wins as long as he's boring to watch we don't care. what now if he wins against JMM? we also don't care, castillo whooped his ass in their first fight but escaped with a "thank you judges win", hard- fought 10th round win against hatton whom pacman dismantled in just 2rnds, a split decision win vs DLH whom pacquiao easily outpunched.. now tell what us what's impressive about the runner mayweather?

i can understand why ppl call floyd a scared fighter and a punk. it does seem like he never fights the best. which is sad because he has more talent than any fighter in the game. i think he'll beat marquez easy i just hope he doesnt back out of a fight with pac. i cant see that happening tho, why else would he come back? the only way pac is gonna beat mayweather is if he catches him with one or two of those shots he knocked hatton out with. dont see it happening. while floyd is not an entertaining fighter to watch for those who like all out slug fests (gatti fans and the like) he is the best out there. i think floyds talents can only be appreciated by true boxing fans. hit and dont get it is the name of the game. always has been. ppl say floyd is a punk for running around his whole fights yet at the same time ali is the greatest. doesnt make much sense. but for all the floyd haters, i get it. the fan base for boxing has turned into a slug fest, stand and trade, lets see someone get knocked out fan base. thats not boxing. wanna see guys trade blows watch a bar fight. i was gonna say mma but all they do is hump eachother in the middle of the ring. back to the point. i love pac but he is not a great fighter. he is a relentless aggressive powerful slugger who has taken advantage of the situation laid in front of him. good for him. mayweather isnt de la hoya, or hatton. pac is too simple of a fighter and floyd will figure him out and beat him. mosley is the only one who stands a chance against floyd. and thats if and only if he can fight like he fought margarito. FLOYD BEATS MARQUEZ. FLOYD BEATS PACQUIAO. both with ease, and shane gives him a run for his money.... IF THEY FIGHT.

why is he scared? because he has options on who to fight and who not to fight?...what happens after he completely outclasses Pacqiaou, oh he beat a small man...then the naysayers will just find something else to complain about...pacman is really good, exceptionally good, but he'll never beat mayweather because Mayweather is a much smarter fighter inside the ring!

The only thing that got crushed here is ricky hatton's cerebellum & fraud jr's ego.

Did Denzel ever visit Fraud jr after a big fight?

He called out Cotto at 140 and his handlers said he wasn't ready, he called out Mosley again at 147 but he had to go on vacation with his family, then he fights DLH above his weight at 154. Not to mention he's fought 20 world champions, or former world champions. But you're right, he dodged everyone who had a chance to beat him.
That's really what happened, as if 5 division wolrd champon was about ducking what?? Champions??...I'm sure PBF after winning over JMM and PAC, he will fight Cotto & Mosley(If not before in case PAC fights Cotto first)

I'll give the benefit of the doubt to those who are still not convinced Floyd is as good as he claims to be.

I would go so far as to say any fighter Floyd faces has a CHANCE to beat him and to prove he CAN be beaten.

Thus far, none of the fighters he faced have beaten him.

Granted, compared to Manny's fights, Floyd's bouts may not look as exciting, and some seemed dull in comparison.

But I see very few would even say that he can be Knocked Out because he's never been in serious trouble enough to even garner the thought.

A lot more can be said about this, but I'll just end it by saying that I truly hope he faces the fighters his doubters claim can give him a better fight.

This way, if and when he beats them, he can retire knowing that he made converts out of those who didn't think he was that good.

And if he, by some divine intervention, loses to anyone, let it be against the best fighter out there and not some bum that everyone knew he could beat.

After all, some of the Greatest Fighters Of All Time have losses on their records.

theres too many Marquez haters. if there was ever a fighter for the true boxing fans he's the one. i have yet to see him NOT take a challenge. he hasnt had an easy road to the top. thats a fighter to believe in.
