if he was afraid of bigger men he wouldnt have fought de la hoya. and marquez is p4p #2. so he beats him then that sets up mayweather-pacman. which would b a huge fight. idiot.

It's funny how Lyle Fitzsimmons wants to discredit Larry Merchant as some old fuddy duddy but did he even think how many fighters Larry has seen come and go. Larry can see through Mayweather's B.S.. A fighter who brags about being the best without actually facing them is such a farce. Boxing is built on your resume and who you beat and when you beat them, which is how Larry Merchant judges fighters. Lyle is a writer who is down with this generation of fans who are all about "talking big" being just as good as actually doing it. I'm feel people like Mr. Fitzsimmons are very plastic in nature by the fact that they come to the defense of a modern fighter who has yet fight someone in their prime. I would dare even say Lyle Fitzsimmons could have been paid off by Mr. PBF himself . Mayweather last turned down a fight with Mosley after Mosley beat Margarito (I saw that here on this site!). As I see it right now Mayweather Jr. would get beaten by an aging SSM. Not good for Mr. Money's bank account for sure so PBF will avoid any type of "suga" in his diet. Mayweather may be taking the villain approach to promoting but then runs around the ring against fighters who have no way of catching him, that my friends will have to change and I can say there are 3 legitimate opponents who can catch and beat Floyd right now.

My mouth waters thinking of how big a fight Floyd-Manny will be when it is made. It needs to be made NOW while it is fever hot right after Floyd pounds out JMM.

Anybody who has watched Larry Merchant over the years knows he has a personal hatred for Mayweather. So anything he says should be taking with a grain of salt.

Is it hatred or is it disgust at a physically skilled fighter who is unwilling to test himself.

                    that's the correct word, disgust!
larry doesn't hate anybody in the boxing world, there is no reason to.
one legitimate fyt for floyd today and larry's perspective on floyd will change.

                      Most Avoided Fighter

I've got one name for Paciao, Mayweather Jr. and any other great fighter out there. Paul Williams, the most dangerous and avoided fighter out there. I can understand Pacman not wanting to move up to 147 to fight Williams because Williams is just to big for him and would destroy him. But what's up with Mayweather Jr., Cotto, Sugar Shane and the rest??? They're all scared to fight Paul.
