Toney's style is geared around drawing you in. If you can stick to the game plan and keep the fight at long range you can have major success against him. Problem is most people become so preoccupied with hitting him after they miss, and they end up not sticking to the game plan and standing right infront of him swinging away, and giving him counter punching opportunities. That is how Toney's style works.

A subtle move that works against Toney that Jones did is to move to Toney's right and double left hooks, because Toney bends the other way.

To beat Toney it is imperative that you dont get drawn in. Rahman 1,Oquendo both beat him imo. The reason though was because they kept the fight at long range.

good analysis ! - you should be on HBO ! - lol

Saying Toney invented the shoulder roll isn't too bad. I've heard so-called fans say Mayweather invented the pull counter or the check hook.

Does it really matter? A loss is a loss.

This reminds me of when Mayweather check hooked Hatton and afterwards everybody was talking about it like Floyd invented it.

James Toney once said that his weight going into a fight shouldn't matter.
All the fans need to know is that he knows how to fight and he has a big ****.
