In the early rounds he either blocked or slipped nearly all of Froch's power punches and was never forced to trade; but they started to land occasionally in the seventh and eighth, and more frequently from the ninth. He looked extremely tired in the tenth - they both did, but Froch has much more stamina than Taylor does and was able to fight better while tired. Taylor isn't much of a fighter anyway, so as soon as it became more of a fight and less of a boxing match, the writing was on the wall.
I'm not going to argue that Taylor wasn't tired in the last four rounds. But he didn't drop because of it. The way some people talk you'd think Taylor hits round eight in a fight and isn't able to lift a glove. Even in the final round after he had been caught with some massive shots he still managed to get on his bike and ALMOST saw it out.

Fighters slow down as they hit the latter rounds. We all know this. Some slow more than others. But Taylor is no George Foreman or Frank Bruno. He was always going to start quicker than Froch and if the fight lasted the duration he was always going to be hit more often as the rounds ticked by.

What did him was the eleventh. At first I thought he slipped that bomb that Froch threw. There was a weird pause before his legs turned to rubber. You could tell that he was hurt but Froch didn't have the time to press home the advantage. Coming out for round twelve Taylor was clearly still feeling the effects of that punch. Which gave Froch the opportunity he'd been waiting for.

I certainly agree that he still had something left in the late rounds, and that he didn't drop from exhaustion - the punches that put him down would have put anyone down - and he did astonishingly well to beat the count. And I agree with your analysis of the eleventh. My point was that if he'd had better stamina and/or better tactics in the late rounds, he wouldn't have had to take those punches.

I completely agree with you that some people are way to eager to play down Froch's win, which was fully deserved.

As far as tiredness goes I think a lot of it had to do with him fighting at SMW against a big SMW whose punching power he was wary of.

Watching the fight I got the impression that Taylor was very concerned about taking hits from Froch. His plan was a bit of a gamble. The Taylor team banked on Froch preferring to go for the big KO shot rather than working behind the jab. I figure they thought the bright lights and spectacle as well as Froch's ego made it a certainty. IF Froch had concentrated on working behind the jab and delivering the three and four punch combinations that started backing Taylor up from round four I think he would have won with greater ease.

Taylor's gameplan was to jump on the first wild punch Froch threw and knock him out of his rhythm by hitting him on the counter with fast flurries before he could set himself for the second and third licks.

Toward that aim the plan was a complete success. Froch looked bewildered during the early rounds and Taylor built up a healthy points advantage. The PROBLEM with that plan was it required a considerable amount of energy to execute it properly. I've seen Taylor hit as often (more often!) before - but he's reaching the age where being on your toes for twelve rounds without taking the odd beather becomes a problem. Clearly it was a problem for him.

He talks about Froch and there is so much to say about his son.
