No dates available for Saturdays in July ... and Johnson costs too much for ShoBox to take it. At least according to Rafael.

a thumbs up to Adamek and Johnson both for signing up to fight one another, they have no fear of tough competition.
This is a terrible decision on HBO's behalf. This fight would have an extremely good chance at FOTY 2009, and I have been calling for it for months now, sigh. I suppose HBO is hoarding cash for the FMJ return and hedging its bets instead of going with a true fight fan's fight....

            Hbo bad decision

Adamek vs Johnson is something boxing fans live to see. I got a feeling that HBO sometimes gives a bull about THAT. I have to say that I am extremly dissapointed at HBO. Hope the Showtime picks that fight and makes it all it can, cuz those fighters will burn the place down!

              HBO has seemed irrational lately...

Why show Penalosa-Lopez instead of Froch-Taylor? Why show Tarver-Dawson II but not Adamek-Johnson?

Why show Dawson-Tarver II, but not the more meaningful Dawson-Tarver I?

Eventhough id like to see this fight.

I understand why HBO wont show it. No offense but neither of those guys are household names. Glen Johnson when televised on HBO/Showtime was televised not beacuse of his name but because of who he was fighting (Jones, Tarver, Dawson). Adamek is showtime material because of the action he brings but for HBO it looks like they only want to showcase potential superstars or superstars already big.

They love Lopez and, to be fair, the Penalosa fight was not supposed to be such a one-sided affair. Showing Peterson-Blain...um...yeah, Top Rank hoodwinked them into that one.

Buying Taylor-Lacy and not buying Taylor-Froch was based 100% on Froch's lack of name recognition in the States. Lacy, as ruined as he is, is a much bigger name than Froch in the U.S.

As for Dawson-Tarver II, HBO loves Dawson so much they were willing to televise this required awful rematch in order to get the rights for his next fight. They were willing to show this fight show they could get Dawson away from Showtime...at least for one fight. I don't think they are doing the long-term deals anymore, but they still do two-shot deals all the time.

I guess HBO doesn't want to spend much more in July, a pretty bad TV month already, and the same month obviously that is featuring Mayweather's alleged return. June is also loaded with boxing, so I'm sure it has to do with HBO's summer budget as well.

They (HBO) probably also believe that Johnson is done and Adamek will beat him convincingly...something that could conceivably happen IMO.

But there's no question they should have bought this from a fans' and pure boxing perspective, unless they can trump it with a better fight in the summer months.
