Adamek vs. Johnson is Turned Down By HBO

BoxingScene.com has learned that HBO took a pass on the proposed cruiserweight bout between IBF champion Tomasz Adamek and former light heavyweight champ Glen Johnson. I hear the deal for the fight is practically done. All the fight needs is a television date. Adamek vs. Johnson has "action" written all over it. Hopefully Showtime picks up the fight. [details]

HBO is really blowing it lately. They refuse to go beyond their set stable of fighters and it gets annoying. F' it, let Versus air the bout. I like their coverage, especially with the fan voting on the scorecards, which is surprisingly accurate.

This would be a war, screw HBO showtime will pick it up. Showtime are really picking up some great fights lately.

At the Wlad Haye press confrence they said they want to show the best fights but they turn down this fight, Glen has been on HBO several times and they were all good fights so why turn this exciting match up down, hope showtime pick this up.

WOW. You would think they would make up for their mistake when they passed on Froch-Taylor. Nope.

The only thing that makes sense is that they are saving every penny, and they are assuming a Floyd fight for sure. I still don't get it though, it's not like this fight would set them back millions. They should have bought it and then put a great co-feature on board with a bigger name for casual fans...as it is, Showtime will buy another great fight and make HBO look dumb.

Thats pretty shocking to say the least. Adamek/Johnson would be one hell of a fight and one that virtually all boxing fans would want to see.

But yet they will accept fights such as Pavlik/Lockett and Dawson/Tarver 2?

Adamek Johnson is a 50/50 fight and one that would virtually guarantee fireworks. I can't understand HBO'S logic in rejecting this brillant fight...

But I can imagine another network will snap it up quick enough....

HBO shows Tarver-Dawson II and a mismatch like Lopez-Penalosa, but turns down great matchups like Froch vs. Taylor and Adamek vs. Johnson?

              Ross Greenberg is an idiot.

It'll get picked up somewhere so I dont care. HBO has had a quality year, I cant complain. Only the Dawson/Tarver rematch was a mistake for them.

This is definatley more of a Showtime fight than an HBO fight anyways. Hopefully Showtime take advantage of HBO's mistakes.

Maybe they want to keep their cash cows going. maybe the HBO people knew something we didn;t that jermain was going ot loose to Froch and he could have made them just as much cash and won a fight against another opponent...Who knows these days...They did pass on a great match up shame shame...Lefty
