Its partly Warrens fault for making him defend his WBO belt against bums for 8 years before unifying...
Or the lennox lewis route, or even the hatton route. Or the Tarver route. Or the Hamed route.

Prince Naz and Hatton were both promoted by Frank Warren at the time so you can't really say Warren was to blame for Calzaghe refusing to fight good competition.

If Carl could somehow divine another big win against a Kessler or Hopkins -- ie. either of Joe's best 2 former opponents -- Froch vs. Calzaghe would be HUGE.

I know it's not happening, but still. I want to take this moment out to dream.

Do you at least now acknowledge there are more reasons to love Carl Froch besides being Joe's nemesis?

Skillsets and styles aside, Froch reminds me a lot of the punky, iconoclastic, brooding rebel warrior spirit I admired in Calzaghe in times before he was elevated to 'Saint Joe' by the phony British establishment. Except he's doing what Joe was never able to for a host of factors - making the fights happen, taking his **** into enemy territory without protest, putting it on the line with unflinching stoicism...and delivering. Even if it's a short reign, even if Kessler busts his head next, it doesn't matter. Because Carl is taking risks and putting it on the line like a champ.

C'mon...if you can love James Kirkland you can def. find a place in your heart for ya homeboy Carl Froch.
Yeah, I dig Froch and wanted him to win before the fight (even though I had a soft spot for JT) but then wanted Taylor to because of the way he was fighting. I still think Carl wasn't great last night, but give him huge credit for pulling it out.

I'm not going to deny that the fact that he's basically the anti-Calzaghe doesn't appeal to me. It does, it really does.

But I love the fact that he's gone about things the right way. Even if the reason for the risk taking is because of the fact that he's 31 and he had to make a move before his prime slips him by, I still give him mad props for going to America and knocking out someone like Taylor.

There is lots to like about Froch. He's got a great personality, he's in the mould of Haye for straight-shooting and likeability. It's a shame that the Calslappy groupies can't see that.

But still, I do wish he was a better fighter. He's Margarito-esque in his reliance on his chin, and Margarito was a fighter I could never warm to. I will always favour the skilled boxer vs the tough bastard with the **** defence who won't stop coming (well, maybe except in the case of Kirkland vs Martinez ), which is why I switched allegiance to Taylor over the course of the fight.

In essence, I like everything about Froch apart from the way he fights

But still, I'm definitely a fan. The kid is class.

              Nouveau? ****, I didn't know you was a Frenchy.

You probably drink Nouveau Beaujolais too.

              Au revoir, mon Frenchy ami.

If Joke was still active, I think it'd be a great event (maybe not a great fight as Joke would probably win a comfortable UD) and would be all for it.

But I dunno, man. Is there any merit in fighting a 37 year old who's retired and doesn't want to fight anymore?

Froch only wins if Slapzaghe has lost a couple of steps due to age and inactivity. And then, would it really mean as much?

Still, saying that, I still wanna see it, if only for the **** talking and hype beforehand.

Alrighty, cool post. I hear ya, I love my technicians, too, but I def. got room for some rugged, chin-on-a-stick ruffians like Froch, sport needs 'em.

Oh, just the event. It would be HOT and HUGE. You know it. And I have no doubt the fight would produce in some unseen way. Joe would have to be riled up enough to want to fight to make it possible in the first place. Just a fantasy, though. Ignore me.
