Mayweather fans:What exactly is a welterweight?

For the record Mosley, Williams, Cotto, Mosley, Marquez, Pacquiao, if he beat one of them, that win would be the best on his resume. That is a problem in my eyes.

1st off, Mayweather's wins against JLC, and Corrales are better then beating a past prime SSM, JMM (When he is now viewed as a WW). On paper, Pac would be his best win, being as how accomplished Pac is (I gotta more respect for Floyd beating JLC and Corrales) Paul Williams...not so sure. It'll be a fight that he is expected to win and it'll only be a good win because of Paul's size

As for Cotto, I'll tell you straight up...I don't know...

If Mayweather cannot go below 147 on weigh ins, then he is a welterweight by definition.

If he is just leveraging money and advantage from Marquez, he is just doing his job the way he should. Ask Ray Leonard or Oscar De La Hoya.

My hunch is that because losing and gaining muscle mass is not good for fighters, If Mayweather fights Pac, it won't be at 147 and he is not going to a fight a WW afterwards and vice versa if he fights a welter he ain't going back down. Pac makes PBF more money than any welter, so... unless arum manages to convince Pac that there is more money and less risk in Cotto than in Mayweather.

Mosley is the other WW that I was thinking of. He's on his last legs, though and I would expect Floyd to beat him soundly at this stage of their careers . Still, Floyd and Cotto match-up a whole lot better than Floyd and Mosley.

I go back and forth on which is the best matchup there. As you point out Mosley is obviously aging, put the difference in footspeed between Mayweather and Cotto, might make it possible for Mayweather to pull one of his "negative" fights. That would be interesting but not exciting to watch.

What I was saying is that at this point, legacywise I don't see Cotto being better than Mosley or vice versa.

As long as he isn't considered "the champ" I don't think he has to fight necessarily a true welter. Not in his first fight back anyway. Also Pacquiao-Mayweather is an appropriate 147 fight.

I don't like this fight, but it's going to happen anyway. It's also a bit more interesting then DLH-Mayweather 2 or Hatton-Mayweather 2

Quit hating on floyd,he is the self proclaimed greatest ever!!!He is so good,he does not have to fight elite fighters,he would murder them!!!We should all be thankfull that floyd is giving,smaller fighters and fighters who have no chance of beating him a chance,to fight the self proclaimed greatest ever!!!To bad for my boy the Punisher and Cotto,they have it wrong,u are not supposed to fight the best,its just unfair to everyone who knows for a fact ur gonna win!!!
