sorry Scene,....i meant to reply to above post, not yours. we still have the same wavelenght.

i believe manny has a better chance against miguel than floyd even at 147. manny can exploit cotto's sluggishness. Floyd is too sleek to get hit and have superior defense. I opined sometime ago that Team Pacquiao will probably opt for a cotto/mosley fyt than with floyd....if he beats ricky! Manny is chasing more glory, another belt at legitimate 147 will cement his boxing legacy. Floyd has no hardware to offer…..my 2˘ worth of opinion.

Cotto is in his prime and the fight would be at Cotto's peak weight, so that's completely irrelevant.

You have the point but Floyd Jr needs somebody to shut him up for good! floyd Jr. however, needs at least 2 tune up fights before facing Pac to elliminate doubts and excuses though.

          Dude.

If Manny got an offer to fight Mayweather, Cotto, and Mosley

He'd take Mayweather in a heartbeat.

          More money/better chance for exposure.

What I mean is, they are using this slogan since Pac facing David Diaz to ODLH, and now to Cotto. Only the names changes actually. Well, Cotto's prime or not, ODLH washed up or not, DDiaz weakest LW champ or not, are the complete irrelevant ones if you got my point.

Cotto is a far bigger threat at 147 than De La Hoya was. And although DLH was expected to win, everyone knew he was way past his prime; everyone had already seen him have the worst fight of his career up to that point against Forbes, when his reactions were clearly not what they had been even against Mayweather, and he was hit more often than he had ever been hit before; everyone wondered how going down to 147 would affect him. Roach said DLH couldn't pull the trigger any more. Valero said he had beaten him up in sparring and been fired for it. It's true that despite all that, most people were still confident that DLH would win (I wasn't), but that's partly because they over-estimated the importance of a size advantage, and partly because they expected DLH to come into the ring as by far the heavier man on the night, whereas he came in as the lighter man, which shocked everyone; and yes, partly because Pac was faster and stronger at the weight than most people expected him to be. Pac fought brilliantly, but that version of De La Hoya would have been slaughtered by Cotto.

As for David Diaz, no one gave Diaz a chance of winning that fight. Pac looked better and won more easily than most people expected, but everyone expected Pac to win that fight.

              • The simplest way to put this is if Hatton doesn't beat Pacman, Cotto will.

yes, if manny will have his way. reality is different! arum and freddie have to factor in their own tangibles and intangibles. freddie already implied that a bout with floyd is most difficult for manny. arum on the one hand will not touch/negotiate (with) floyd with a ten-foot pole... not if he can avoid it! me still thinks they will go for another belt, will be 6th after ricky's jww or 7th to include Ring's featherweight ex-MAB.

exposure??? does manny still need this? duhh...

very true...but de facto. the highlighted statement above is not correct before the 'dream match'. during that time, most people believe firsthand that oscar is a bigger block to hurdle than cotto. it is because oscar is far bigger than miguel! simple logic again for me.....
