He was actually setting up a three fight plan to go after Lopez. However, nature said otherwise.

Right.... I'm sure he'd rather have permanent eyes problems then fight a guy who has yet to prove himself on the top level. Good point.

There was a lot of plans, and Lopez seemed to be the frontrunner at first but then moving up to 126 or fighting Darchinyan sounded more often

Come on man, be real. I know you're a Puerto Rican, and a supporter of Lopez's. That's cool.

But do you honestly see Vazquez as the type to duck anybody? The man is all warrior.

If he can't fight, he can't fight.

Why risk his quality of life and possibly his vision just to prove a point?

I'm glad you can agree. I know you're a huge Juanma fan, and it sucks that we won't get to see Izzy/Juanma. But the man has to look out for his quality of life.

Once he retires, Lopez will be my new favorite in the division. And I hope he can excite me the way Izzy did for so many years.

He been in WARS. Lopez was to be his third fight on his short list. I don't consider that ducking someone. 2 vicious trilogies, A couple of fights of the year, many fight of the year candidates, comebacks during fights and now the surgery. So he wanted to get some big wins for some big money to let the young lion build before they fought.

                  Nothing CLOSE to a duck.

According to some posters Juanma has fought nobodies and a weak champion. Ill let you guess who they are.....

Health and well being above all, no need for a warrior like Izzy to continue if his body is telling him otherwise. I'm sure that if he could fight on he would, he gets nothin' but respect from me whether he retires now or not.
