I've lost serious respect for MMA. It used to be about elites from their respective disciplines coming together to fight it out. Now its ex HS jocks that train in MMA as its own martial arts. Its effective but the majority of these guys are novice to amature level, almost never elite.

      $pike.

Training with them was sad in general. You ask for chicken breast or any type of food in general, it takes a week tops to get it. You ask for a six pack though, it's on your door within hours. That and the lack of audio/visual stimulation (not even books are allowed) really breeds the alcoholism.

With that being said...Boxing has yet put up an elite prime boxer to face anyone in mma... I wish someone would step up...

Elite and prime boxers are making double the money that MMA fighters are making, its just how it is. Why would they leave that to go to a sport where their value could drop?

There are some MMA fighters who I think would fare well in professional boxing though. Jaime Varner comes to mind (WEC)

The point is that I've been hearing this "supposed weakness of boxers", from mma fans, ever since Gracy took out this weak "journeyman" boxer, in UFC 1. That would be like a Olympic gold medal winner in boxing knocking out a yellow belt in jujitsu and saying that jujitsu was never meant for fighting. Now, if Gracy would have actually beat some boxer that was really an elite fighter and not just some chump.....but I find it funny how all these mma fans\fighters are "supposed" experts on what boxers can and can not do in a fight...when most of them have never been to any type of "real" boxing training, whatsoever...When I say "real"...I'm talking about sparing with pro world champs and amateur national champions. Not sparring with other UFC chumps that might have the boxing skills of someone that would fight in a Tough Man competition in Mississippi....

Funny story but...Once day I was watching a Pride Fighting show and that bald headed, brain dead, idiot, from pride (who is that idiot host from pride??), was actually saying that mma fighters would have an advantage IN A FIST FIGHT against a boxer because boxers use 16 once gloves to fight and mma only use 4 ounce fights... Yeah, supposedly, all boxers rely solely on their gloves to defend against punches... Supposedly boxers wouldn't know what to do if they got hit with a 4 ounce glove, instead of a 16 ounce glove. But I don't even know where to begin on his many flawed statements...

              Who cares?

Too many variables in a streetfight, to say one group of fighters would generally beat up another group.

It comes down to the individual more than anything.

If you don't think that punching with an MMA glove is closer to punching with a fist than is punching with a huge boxing glove on, then you are misinformed.

I train both boxing and MMA, and in terms of a street fight, you could not use the same guard you use in boxing and not have fists fly right in between your guard and bust your nose.

In terms of weaving and slipping, sure these would be effective either way.

As far as the angles go.

Here is where I believe boxing for MMA would be much more effective than boxing with boxing gloves on.

Dude, I've trained with Karate glove before I got into boxing, at the age of 15. And boxers train with 16 ounce gloves but they "fight" with gloves that are much smaller. Amateur gloves are much smaller. You can't really hide behind those. Have you ever fought with those?? You can feel you knuckles on those...and you can't hide behind them, ether. That's why a lot of boxing coaches have their fighters use 16 ounce Rayes gloves. They heavy but compact and small. Then you have the 8 ounce and 6 ounce gloves that pros use. Hell, there are a lot of boxers that don't even have their guards up because their reflexes are so quick! Trust me. MMA fighters would not have any advantage in a fist fight against a good veteran boxer because they use 4 ounce gloves...
