in a real street fight you have no way of tellin who wud win!!! most street fights are won and lost by luck ! number of friends you have with you! were the fight takes place! and what wepons are at hand ............ if a mma fighter is chargein at you, and you ram a beer glass in his face ........... no more tough guy !!!! same with a boxer !!!!!

but a no rules fight in a ring or cage everything gos, bitein, racken eyes , head butts, totaly anything !!!......................... the mma fighter would win !!

I was giving different surroundings, different settings = different outcome. Maybe I should've specified prime heavy weight fighters.

Well, a street fight is not supposed to be fair. I see a street fight as hand to hand combat, like in Iraq. Kill or be killed. That being said, I've seen punch drunk boxers defeat black belts, in jujitsu, WHILE ON THE GROUND. Hell, there was one boxer (weighed 147) that even had his back pinned to the ground and this 3rd degree, who out weighed him about 80 pounds, was ready to "ground and pound" him. Instead, within seconds, this 147 pound boxer was on top of this 220 + pound jujitsu fighter trying to rip his eyes out. This jujitsu fighter, "who was well trained to fight in the ground" was crying and screaming to his big buddy to help him. My point? Grappling is OK but it doesn't work all the time.

Seriously. Would you want to grapple Bruce Lee on the ground? Better yet, would you want to grapple a pit bull on the ground? What about someone that has a knife that you might not know about? You take that chance if you take someone to the ground...in a "real" fight. That's why I think it's better to be a master of one striking style than to be a jack out all trades in a bunch of styles but a master of none of them. A striking style keeps you away from the nasty stuff that you'll encounter on the ground. But you have to be very good, though.

Now in the octagon...there are rules...Just like in boxing. MMA fighters might think they have an advantage at their sport. However, I think the elite boxers could end up reigning in that sport, too. Just have them practice on take down defense and they're an instant threat. And in the octagon, mma fighters have not proved anything yet. Oh, UFC 1?? Please...OK, Gracy took down this "journeyman fighter", who had over 10 losses...Wow...Cong****, Gracy...I bet you feel proud, now. Let's see you do that to someone's that's really good. The other day, while training, I was smacking around this yellow belt in jujitsu, while he was trying to get me on the ground....Does that mean that boxing is better than jujitsu, now?? Not a fair assessment? Wel, it's the same thing that most mma fighters\supporters have done to hype up their sport. Self proclaiming your style the best doesn't make it the best.

And Dana White is a joke....Oh, he has a "15 and 7" "amateur" boxing record and he was "actually" a boxing coach after that?? He knows boxing?? LOL... please...I had more amateur fights just in my first year of boxing, alone....and it was WAY better than his overall record....And I have more than 16 years out that sport...and I won't claim all knowing in boxing....I do know more than Dana White, though...I've seen him spare on his ****** UFC show. His boxing skills suck. I weigh only 135 and I would still take his fat ass in the ring!

So hard to say, really depends on the fighters. Someone with a strong kickboxing and/or grappling background should take out a sport boxer fairly easy (low kicks and elbows, need say more?) but a boxer has a good chance against a pure grappler.

Over-all the versatility and sheer range of MMA will be more effective IMO.

mma fighter, no doubt. most fights end up on the ground and that's where most mma fighters have the edge at.

... unless it was pacquiao. then i'd say the boxer.
