Minion once introduced me to his wife and sister. I turned round and there was only ONE girl standing there.

      Christ!!!!
The whole point of same day weigh-ins is so they don't dehydrate themselves and fight weak but instead come in at their proper weight. This would be the responsibility of the trainers and fighters both. Weigh-ins the day before is still not enough time for a person to properly re-hydrate the fluid which cushions the brain from the skull. This is why so many fighters suffer brain hemorrhaging. So I don’t really know what you talking about “go back”, we’re still there.

So they don't dehydrate themselves? Thats exactly what fighters used to do even when they had same day weigh ins back in the day. Why do you think so many more fighters used to die in the ring 30+ years ago? Day before weigh-ins were introduced in the early 80's and since that time death's in boxing have reduced significantly.

Here is a chart that shows the dramatic drop in ring fatalities in the 80's on compared to the previous decades in boxing.
It's in the middle of the document and it's title is table 5.

          Very interesting data.

About 80% of the deaths listed were due to head, brain, or neck injuries, about 12% were due to cardiac conditions, and about 8% were due to other causes, ranging from ruptured spleens to “over-indulgence in ice-water.”

I don't think i've ever heard of that one before.

I really can't say that i'm totally against day before weigh-ins. My suggestions were more thoughts for discussion sake. Things that might make the sport safer, but in this case I guess not. You just had it twisted thinking I care more about the legitimacy of the sport than the safety of the fighters. If anything, more ring deaths would only tarnish the legitimacy of the sport more.

It's really strange though, you'd think with day of weigh-ins a trainer would want his fighter at a healthy weight with his energy level high for a fight, not dehydrated and fatigued.
