This is ******ed. Bob Arum could have made a fight for Clottey to fulfill his mandatory obligation at any point in time over the last 10 months. But now that Clottey finally has a big fight he's going to have to vacate his title. I blame Arum and I think the IBF is also being unreasonable. It's not like they've had a mandatory sitting in waiting who Clottey was avoiding. This is just dumb all the way around.

They are ****** BUT you have to see their side also. Mandatories are supposed to be made every year. They want THEIR Champ to fight THEIR #1 Contender. At least Hatch@#$%@#gghh , or whatever his name is, is not the "Regular" Champ. lol. But I doubt the Clottey/Cotto winner will fight the guy, and the IBF will be left looking for two guys to fight for THEIR belt later this year. Arum should get the guy a fight on the undercard so he will not ***** and moan about not getting his shot. The even smarter move would be to put the guy in there with someone who could beat him! That would free up the winner to fight Shane or Pac.

Who gives a **** about the IBF or any other title.....! You would think that when it comes to bending the rules ( which is something every santioning body does and often) it would be to permit fights such as this one! After all, it even represents more santioning fees.... But no, the morons that preside over such matters seem to be against unifiying titles....

Well, even if both of them (cotto/clottey) drop their titles... I will still watch the fight, as would any other true fan of the sport!

**** like this is what ruins boxing.

Wish there was only one belt in the division.

But bottom line is that the promoter's job is to get his fighters fights. Clottey just wasn't sittin on his a$$, he has been wanting a fight for awhile now and arum has paid him no mind!
I can't say I disagree with you, but I think they're both to blame. Clottey should know how the organization works, especially if he has their belt.

And its not like I'm just "lovin" the IBF here. I happen to know that rule VERY well because that rule is what allowed Julio Diaz to sit on the title for 9 months waiting on Juan Diaz rather than to do his mandatory with Nate.
I spoke to a few people. The story is 100% accurate. From waht I was made to understand, the IBF gave Top Rank a certain amount of time to get Cotto Clottey done. It wasn't done in the specified time period set by the IBF, so they enforced their mandatory rule on Clottey. I know Clottey signed off for Cotto a while ago. Cotto only agreed to the terms last week and I'm not even sure if he signed the actual contract yet. When the IBF sent a letter on March 30, then Top Rank sent in their unification request and the IBF says 'it's too late for that now.'

That's actually a damn good idea, give the guy a chance to actually earn his shot and get a bit more exposure, while giving another Top Rank up and comer the chance against him to expose the IBF and their pathetic excuse for mandatories.

Arum and Clottey ****ed up big time.

This is what happen when a guy wants to cash on a win or a title. They dont want to fight till they get a big fight

This is Arum and Clottey to blame, for not fighting his mandatory. Why Cotto didnt got stripped? Because he fought his mandatories.

This is sad tho. I bet Cotto will be pissed this happening for the second time.

I guess Aru will have to pay hlatswayo some money, to step aside!!!!!
