Exactly the reason why we'll never see a Unified champion in Boxing anymore. Everything now is so ****in political it's ridiculous. Like, how ****in dumb can the IBF or any organization be to not allow a fighter to attempt to unify the belts considering he's fighting one of the best in the sport. Not only that, but say Cotto wins...isn't that a key name to have in your stable of IBF champs?

SMH at these clowns man. This is the reason why I can care less about belts anymore, just make the best fights possible and **** the ABC belts. At the end of the day, nobody cares. A belt doesn't make you a great fighter.

BoxingScene.com has learned that the IBF is pushing for Joshua Clottey to make a mandatory defense of his welterweight title against the highest available challenger, which is number 3 rated Isaac Hlatshwayo. Clottey has already signed to fight WBO champion Miguel Cotto on June 13 at New York's Madison Square Garden. The IBF sent a letter to Top Rank [promoters of Clottey and Cotto] on March 30, which gave them and Branco Milenkovic, promoter for Hlatshwayo, until April 30 to reach a deal or the fight will head to a purse bid. CLottey could pay his mandatory step aside money, but the man doesn't have enough money for himself let alone to pay off contenders.

This is the only thing IMO that can save this unification bout.

I also believe it's up to the promoter to pay the step aside funds.
