He has this ridiculous "macho" stance on clinching, had he clinched the fight would have been different, plaster and all. Shane made that fairly clear.

There are too many threads about floyd sr. as if he was god (as if every fighter he trained looked impeccable like his son, and that is clearly not the case), but this is one where there are a couple valid points

      1) time to switch from evangelista to a higher level of trainer

      2) upper body movement, an economical way of fighitng both on defense and offense. One thing that cost Cotto the fight was the waste of energy, not just his stamina, but the actual waste of it he was moving way too much and was nervous. Floyd Sr. seems to (try to) teach those things to all his fighters.

All FLoyd Sr. could do for Cotto is make him into a boring defensive minded fighter. Cotto's combination of offense and defense is fine, if it wasn't for the plaster everyone here would have been surprised at how one sided Cotto/Margarito would have been,

clottey and williams didn't clinch and they still made it 12 rounds w/ loaded gloves though.

It is doubtfull he wore the wraps against Williams or Clottey as he imediately took his wraps off after the fight was over. In the Cotto fight, he had them on well after the fight was over.

but there's no evidence that he didn't use plaster against williams and clottey...

I'm tired of seeing threads saying this guy needs to leave their trainer to go with Roach or Sr. and so on. It's all bull****. Trainers tend to either get too much credit or too much blame. It seems like it's never the fighter's fault. Sr. is not a miracle worker. He just happened to have a son blessed with great fighting genetics that he could mold from a young age. Now he has an interesting style that can be quite effective, but it wont work with everybody. Oscar for one looked lout of place trying to shoulder roll agaisnt Vargas, although I give Sr. credit for stressing the jab.

And that's his problem. He refuses to clinch. Until he does, he'll never be truly great.

I didn't say there was but it's highly doubtfull, he took his wraps off imediately and had a towel over his hand complaining about he hurt his hand. If he was wearing his special little inserts, I don't think he would have taken his wraps off in the ring.

but all of marg's fights are now tainted, even the williams and clottey fights.
